Why? The league won't be anywhere near as good as the Italian League (despite many Americans having an excessively high opinion of the level of play here). If she has long-term, professional athletic goals, staying here isn't the best option. I dont think anyone is claiming that PVF will be the same level as A1 is. I will say that Grand Rapids, Atlanta, and Omaha would all be playoff teams in A1. Outside of the top 3/4 maybe 5 if you're kind to Chieri... its at a similar level. A1 has a coaching advantage. I don't know Busto's coach, but the downside of PVF is the lack of international/pro experience there. It's literally impossible to say that before anyone has even played a match. Looks good on paper is one thing, but actual product on the court is another. And given the league isn't playing with International rules, it won't even be a fair comparison when things do get going. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled for professional leagues to get going here, but acting like they are going to immediately start out as an upper tier league is specious at best and genuinely discounts the volleyball IQ and experience of playing professionally. PVF is essentially NCAA 2.0, the older athletes version. If an athlete has long-term aspirations, it's still advisable to start their pro career overseas, especially if they can get into a top league.

But I think it's a good choice for graduating seniors. I feel like there are more misses than hits in joining pro teams mid-season (plus, they're usually looking for a player BECAUSE of a mess).

No one is saying that PVF is going to jump in as a top tier league. (I can pull up my comments about it being a tier 2 league)
But I think its a bit disrespectful to call it NCAA 2.0 when there's plenty of athletes that have had A1/turkey experience or were wanted in the past offseason by A1/Turkish teams.
My overall point is, other than the big matches against top 4 teams... the biggest difference between going to Italy and PVF is going to be the coaching. Skylar isnt going to get better by playing against Cuneo or Trentino instead of Grand Rapids/Omaha.

Because a lot of the same things were said about AU when it started and that didn't pan out. Again, I love watching AU and I will be unreservedly supporting PVF. But I will reserve judgement on how the level looks until they get rolling.

I thought AU looked pretty good this year, obviously the switching takes a bit away from being truly cohesive, but the level was pretty high. PVF will be teams playing in a system they work through together over months of practice during the season. I'm thinking it will be a very good product but different that watching NCAA matches overall due to 7 less subs per set.

Just saw that Skylar Fields has signed with UYBA in Italy. I was hoping she’d stay home with one of the new pro teams😞 Why? The league won't be anywhere near as good as the Italian League (despite many Americans having an excessively high opinion of the level of play here). If she has long-term, professional athletic goals, staying here isn't the best option. I didn’t imply they are going to be as good. But they sure could’ve used big names and big time players like her to elevate the game in the US

It'll be a few years until a US league can afford Gabi/Egonu level salaries, with the corresponding level of play. If you have US NT ambitions going overseas is definitely the move for now.
I really hope one of these leagues survives to get to that level.
