I knew this was coming. Gabi and her are both the same height. Gabi is an exception to the rule though. Truly a once in a generation type athlete as everyone can see meh. there's nothing to what you're saying except for "she's japanese" She's done well against the blocks of big international teams. Japan was not the best passing team last summer and she still took care of business with no opposite to protect her. Agreed she wouldn’t be horrible but I don’t think she would be as good as krob is all I’m saying

I don't remember Koga being that strong of a passer. I think she definitely has the offense to play in Europe though.
But on the flip side her success could also be a product of Japan's system basically being centered around her (until she got injured at WCH). I remember Saori Kimura would put up big numbers with Japan during NT season, but she was basically a nobody in Turkey.

look at what Ishikawa is doing on the mens side in Italy not apples to oranges but smaller hitters can find success Yuki is not that undersized I believe if I remember correctly he is the same height as ngapeth at 6’4” ish. Nishida is very undersized though but he is also clearly and once in a generation athlete pretty sure yuki is 191 (edit: 6 3 in freedom units)

Similar or even better numbers to many of the taller/more known players in the league.

Larson has been great but she has aged out of being a contributor to a top four team. Just let her RIP until she finds a third husband. Maybe she should cross over and find real peace?

I can also name a lot of short successful attackers but they all have one thing in common ,through the roof athleticism. Didn’t Takashi get his foot caught above the bottom tape of the net and almost break his back, he is also flying. Koga is not that from what I see

Brooke tomorrow against Vakif. Let's see if she can be the American Gabi, or one of the Bosetti sisters. Regardless she has the personality to be a super star if she has the talent. She's easy to like. Go Ducks...

the Italian outside pool might be worse than turkey. Its soooo bad that I literally laughed out loud when I saw avid 2.0 make that list yesterday I'm kinda joking, but not really. Italians lead the charge on VolleyData and that seeped into the women's game as the pool of female athletes became more physically talented. It lead to decreased emphasis on fundamentals like ball control (a bit of a generalization, but I think there's some connection there). Now, Italy has setters who can't set and liberos that can't pass. lol If you want to see outsides who can pass and attack, watch the Sydney Olympic Final: looking at mother dime every pass given to her except one… @karchkiraly you mad

and Gabi is like 5'8 they'd work with it I knew this was coming. Gabi and her are both the same height. Gabi is an exception to the rule though. Truly a once in a generation type athlete as everyone can see You know they said that same "once in a generation" line in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but in that same generation we had Buffy, Kendra, Faith, dozens of Slayers in Season 7.... Where am I going with this? Who knows?! But we can acknowledge Gabi and Koga's unique talent existing in the same generation.
