Never done one and I'm not sure if I should be going at my age. I'm thinking maybe of going to BottleRock in Napa. For some reason the 3-day tickets sold out within hours, but single-day didn't and are still available. It's over Memorial Day weekend.

Bottlerock is a good one! Not too big or crazy, like Coachella. The demographics attending a Lizzo/Duran Duran show will be very interesting…

a music festival is always fun, even if just to say that you've been to one. one day passes are great when you don't like all of the acts on all of the days, and don't want to commit to attending a full weekend.
two things i've learned to do from going to them in my 20s: bring a portable charger and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Not sure if I will do it or what day. I'll see if maybe there are still tickets later. I don't sense that the single day tickets sell out all that quickly anyways.

Something I have wanted to do coming out of Covid is go to a large venue stadium type rock concert, which I have never done. The one band I would want to see is not an option - Rush (rip Neil), so I would be open to literally anything that would be an amazing show, plus I wouldn't want to feel too out of place with the demographic.

I guess there are variations on what that means: "music festival". I have gone to Bumbershoot in Seattle (also over Labor Day) many times, but because it is (was?) located in the middle of the city it's not one of these deals where people go and camp out for three days. But it did have like a dozen stages running more or less simultaneously from morning to night. Not all music, though. There were comedy stages, drama stages, music stages, and even film viewing sessions. It was an "arts and music festival", but most of the time the biggest draws were the headline music acts.
I'm not sure the 50-yr-old Bumbershoot has survived COVID-19. They were already struggling because the non-profit that put it on for the last 40 years was no longer able to do it, and then it was outright cancelled in 2020 and they haven't held it since. They are now talking about reimagining it as a year-round brand for arts and music rather than a 4-day festival like it used to be.

This one is pretty much walking distance from where I live, chill beach vibe, really fun, a little older demographic for sure. I'll be going Friday for me (big Black Keys fan) and Saturday for the fam (wife/girls love Gwen):

They were already struggling because the non-profit that put it on for the past 40 years was no longer able to do it, and then it was outright cancelled in 2020 and they haven't held it since. They are now talking about reimagining it as a year-round brand for arts and music rather than a 4-day festival like it used to be. I went to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass at Golden Gate Park last year. Free, if you can believe it - paid for by billionaire Warren Hellman's financial endowment. Over the years I've gone and saw Cyndi Lauper, Chris Isaak, Mavis Staples, and Jackson Browne. Last year I went for Elvis Costello and (Talking Heads guitarist) Jerry Harrison/Adrian Belew. The latter was a great show, even if they had either Harrison or another singer doing David Byrne's role. I did miss this since I didn't come on Sunday: But I've never been to any kind of paid music festival. I'd feel obligated to spend the entire time there rather than just dropping in for whatever set sounded interesting. I will say it used to be easy to get into HSB, but now they make it a lot harder with security and clear bag restrictions. And it's perfectly legal to bring in beer and wine, but only in plastic/cans and coolers pretty much aren't allowed any more. I brought in my beer in a clear plastic bag with several ice substitute packs to keep it cold. And I brought in a pizza from Domino's rather than spending at one of their food carts.

I'll be going Friday for me (big Black Keys fan) and Saturday for the fam (wife/girls love Gwen): There was a time when John Fogerty refused to sing any CCR songs. He just wouldn't do it because he was pissed off at Saul Zanetz. And the Wailers? Saw them at a county fair once. Really bizarre. Saw a woman who looked to be in her 60/70s light up a spliff and pass it to what looked to be her granddaughter. You mention walking distance. If I go I'm kind of worried about transportation. I've been to that part of Napa (Oxbow Market a few times) and parking sucks even without a music festival. I've heard that some people just try and park on the street and walk in, but it's got to be crazy. And some probably park in time-limited public parking and I'm sure that the city of Napa sends out meter maids in force to bring in revenue. They supposedly have free bus service from certain places, but I'd hate to be stuck there if I missed the return bus. Other public transportation doesn't look promising either unless it runs late. I forgot who got fined for going past the 10 PM music curfew. Looked it up and it was Guns N’ Roses. datebook.sfchronicle.com/music/bottlerock-pulls-plug-on-guns-n-roses-for-breaking-curfew
