From mdaily.com, Hebert says that Cumpston is ready to play. He also acknowledges that he sat them (Cumpston and Florian) last weekend out of respect for the rest of the team.
Looking forward to it, but still love seeing Piniata playing in the front row....
mndaily.com Although Hebert said he’s been impressed with the way the team has come together so far, he said Minnesota’s progress in that area has been somewhat hampered by the slow transition of transfer outside hitters Meghan Cumpston and Sarah Florian.
Cumpston’s availability to contribute was marred by an injury on the first day of practice, Aug. 12, but she’s ready now. Florian came in a week and a half late after transferring from Southern California and Hebert elected to sit her out of fairness to the rest of the team.
One thing that has made a big difference in the Gophers’ “gellability” has been the way each veteran took a new player under their wing to help them adjust, Byrnes said. She sponsored freshman Kelly Schmidt. At this point in the season, Hebert said those are the most important things, not necessarily wins.
“We’re always in it to win,” Hebert said. “But at this point in the season, it is acceptable to me and the players to see matches like this as a barometer of where we stand. Now if you’re talking to me in the NCAA Tournament or something, I wouldn’t have the same answer.”

Or maybe could be better in the future? It doesn't have to be broken to improve..... They almost beat Nebraska, so don't change anything? Riiiiiight.

Read the Nebraska vs Minnesota thread and you'll get an idea of how other people feel about this whole topic. It isn't "all" working and can definitely be improved especially with high caliber players on the bench.

Hey Journey, how do you know if it is going to improve? How does anybody know? How about them just getting a couple of more digs and the outcome would have been much different. It is funny how folks can point out how to make things better when none of us have the ability to predict the future. One thing that is certain in volleyball....TEAM CHEMISTRY. Ever thought about? ESTRELLA Jeez, I just love being talked down to by some complete doofus. Yes, I've thought about it. Perhaps you should also consider the fact that the coaches think about it all the time? And if they can improve the team, while retaining the team chemistry, they shouldn't change the lineup and use some of their better players because they came close to beating Nebraska? And I don't *know* it's going to improve. But I'll bet those same coaches do. Or at least, perhaps they have a sneaking suspicion. Of course, you being the genius you are, I guess you'd have a much better feel for it than Hebert and company. Just keep those wonderfully cogent and penetrating comments coming. I love good jokes.

Everybody please pay attention...we have a PROPHET JOURNEY in our mist. He or she can tell you everything you want to know. He will even resort to name calling to get his prophesies across. I guess Minn will be able to beat Nebraska with more height. The fact that in the whole match the scored TWO points less than Nebraska and even out blocked them. Wow....lets see if we can get that .179 hitting % up a little to beat the .193 % from Nebraska. Come on....what the heck I'm saying. You know everything about volleyball! ESTRELLA

ESTRELLA Two total points difference, yet there are numerous matches throughout the season where the winning team has fewer total points than the losing team. FWIW: Minnesota gained ~34% of their points from "unforced" Nebraska errors while Nebraska gained "only" 25% of their points from "unforced" Minnesota errors. That doesn't count blocks since those are "forced" errors. Was that perhaps an anomalous issue for Nebraska against Minnesota where the match may not actually have been as close as the score or did Minnesota's defense actually "force" some of the extra errors from Nebraska in prolonging rallies by keeping the ball in play? The coaching staff monitors those types of things and much more and are IMHO much more likely of knowing whch changes are likely to have a positive impact on the team than any of us here on VT.

AMOM, I agree and disagree with you. Using the total score diffrenence will give a indication how you fared against a given team based on initiated plays (after serve). I know it does not mean anything after a set is over but it is a good data point. Blocking can be forced as well as unforced errors depending on the situation of the play. The rest of your points a do agree! ESTRELLA
