Not sure when to put this, but 2027 OH Lauren Forelli from AZ Rev is an absolute stud. Got to watch her this weekend and she’s so incredibly athletic and moves maturely for her age. Pretty much every Power 5 was on her court. www.hudl.com/v/2KNPHCshe's 13/14? are we really talking about middle schoolers? Yep we are and I agree, she is a total stud. Thanks for sharing her hudl link.

He is? And is it hard to believe? He got carded in at least two matches I saw this weekend for mouthing off to the refs and opposing coaches/teams. 100% true, it really happened. Multiple profane rants at coaches, swearing at the refs and directed at opposing players. I mean, there is no doubt Mike Ligenfelter can train athletes. But no one that knows anything about his history would call him a class act. He's pretty much the exact opposite.

Just taking a look at the matches and results from the weekend. Dynasty 17's loses to Miami Hype? I didn't even know that WAS a club, let alone a club that can compete with a stacked roster like Dynasty. What the heck happened there? That’s the problem with only reading the publications that fall over each other promoting the same clubs and players over and over. Miami Hype has been a solid team in this age group since they were 14-15. A well coached team and stars the late Sean Taylor’s daughter Jackie Taylor. Sean was a all pro safety for the redskins and was a star at the university of Miami. He was murdered in a botched home burglary when Jackie was a baby.

NKYVC Tsunami 17-1 played some incredible volleyball. That team is loaded with so many outstanding athletes. They are not the biggest team but they got moxy and showed how to get it done. Their best player Sydney Barrett is committed to the Univ of Denver and honestly I don't know if any of the players on that team are currently committed to Power programs. Way to represent Cincinnati/NKY area which has some really good volleyball clubs that are sometimes overlooked. Based on the play in the finals, I'm a bit surprised NKYVC made it to the title match. I wasn't impressed with their setter's consistency and location, but I suppose given how much volleyball was played up to that point, it could have been a fluke? I've found that finals clubs matches aren't always the best - those athletes are tired. It is not as if they had an easy road to the finals. Again, lot of great athletes on this team and they just grinded other teams down with their defense and execution on offense. Very high tempo offense and aggressive serving that kept teams out of system. As I mentioned earlier they are mostly made up of non power 5 players. I will also add their Head Coach should be coaching college somewhere. He has coached these girls for the last couple seasons and just knows how to get the most out of his players.

Apparently Dynasty was just not themselves and had a ton of uncharacteristic errors Perhaps the teams they dropped sets to or actually lost to made them look uncharacteristic. Just a thought. It was power pool play, they went to 3 with HJV on Day 1 and lost to Miami Hype in 3.

They have a new coach this year. Someone else coached that team for 3 seasons prior.

This NKYVC group has been relevant for years on the national scene. Finished 2nd as 16s at Triple Crown with a DS at OH because of injury. Their best player is Julia Hunt (not Sydney Barrett as previously noted). Julia is a top 5 MB in her class and headed to Washington. Incredible athlete that is very versatile. Hits from every slot in the front row. As someone else mentioned, they are relentless from the serving line and defensively. They also have very, very solid complimentary attackers. It is a grind as an opposing team.
Also, Tyler Collins coached them at 14s, 15s, and 16s. Not the current coach. He has only been in the area for 2 years.

But I’ll take Skidmore for best overall.

For NKYVC, Hunt started slow on day one and then was a big factor the rest of the way. The stream said she hit .810 in the semifinals (18/21 with 1 error was what I was told). Skidmore and Barrett were also big offensively, but their serving and defense were very noticeable factors. Looking at AES, their road wasn't easy beating MadFrog and Dallas Skyline on day 1, A5 on day 2, and then Premier Nebraska to start day 3. A5 and Premier have big middle play and NKYVC's serving took them out of system a lot. Both A5 and Premier have already qualified for 17 Open for the USA GJNC. They earned their bids at NLQ in January along with Dynasty.

Yes, that team is legit and was impressive against Dynasty, Madfrog, and 1st Alliance. Three top 10 wins in one tournament is pretty damn impressive. I follow this age group pretty closely at the Open level but was not familiar with that team. I know they didn’t play Open at 16U nationals last year or 15U the year before. So I think some of us were seeing them for the first time. Obviously, they can contend at the top end of Open if they want to go that route this year.

Indeed, that team has been highly competitive at the top end of Open division for the last few years. Always an excellent ball control team, make very few mistakes, and have enough fire power to cause problems. They play terrific team volleyball. Definitely a legit squad.

NKYVC's new 17s coach coached their 17s age group last year that won silver at nations in 17 American. He has been a college coach at a few DI schools including also leading operations for the Washington Huskies VB team in 2005, all before going the academic route as a professor.
