(response trimmed for scrolling ease) That was almost certainly more than you wanted, but I hope it was somewhat helpful. Thanks so much for the thoughtful response! Got a much deeper understanding of the contours of those visits, now. What an exciting time that must be for recruits and their families. Hopefully the visits provide clarity to them and make them confident they're finding the best fit. That’s the exact mindset I have. I wish there was a robust general class on how the recruiting process unfolds. It’s different in each sport, but there are still some generalities. The first thing to understand from a parent/player point of view is to put yourself in the shoes of the coaches, and think about what you would do if you were them? Their job literally depends on the players they bring into the program. There’s an unbelievable amount of pressure, and a lot of different criteria they’re having to weigh. They’re not going to be completely truthful, especially if in reality they’re waiting on a player they feel like they have a decent shot at that they like better than you. But it’s hard to distinguish slow playing from failures at following up. It’s difficult to distinguish genuine enthusiasm from actually wanting someone else more until the moment the player tries to commit and they tell you some reason why the timing isn’t right. Or maybe they’re more worried about the player’s academics than they’re letting on. In any case, I just don’t think players and parents in general are as prepared for the recruiting process and what it actually entails as they could be. Especially in the non revenue sports. The parents who know how the game is played have a lot of advantages over parents and their kids who are encountering it for the first time. It’s not as important for the best of the best, but the ones below that tier there’s a lot of dynamics involved that to me it would be helpful if they were aware of what decisions they can make to help manage the process. Just my opinion.

First of all, official visits are for 48 hours. I’m unclear on what happens if they go beyond that, but they’re not supposed to. The school can pay for airfare and lodging for the prospective student athlete and one other person. Usually the guardian. A key part of the visit is a tour of the facilities age coaches, but also it pretty much always includes visits with academia and the administration. If there’s a specific college the athlete is interested in, tour of their facilities and some kind of conversation with a representative - up to and including the dean of the college in some cases - is arranged. This has been changed as of this year. Visits are now for "two consecutive nights" which means they can last over 48 hours, now. Additionally, schools can pay for an athlete and up to two family members to travel with them. Whether or not schools choose to or can afford to do so is up to their discretion. Another rule change that favors the big prorams. There is a limit to how many meals can be provided to the student athlete + 1 (I believe it’s two per day), but the enforcement mechanism for that is a bit blurry. Depending of the level of resources the school has, there’s often some kind of goody bag at the hotel room when they check in. I've literally never heard of a meals limitation. There is a dollar limitation on entertainment costs, though. Well, my information is outdated, which doesn’t surprise me. Used to be a meal limitation. As far as limitation on entertainment costs, is it $280,000? www.nola.com/sports/high_schools/texas-football-reportedly-spent-280-000-on-the-recruiting-visit-of-arch-manning-8-others/article_01e4a8b0-3605-11ed-abe2-87be59ecae9a.html“The University of Texas football program spent nearly $280,000 on the official recruiting visit of Newman quarterback Arch Manning and eight other prospects, according to a report by The Athletic.”

Reviving this thread as it's the start of the club season.
I'm gonna go on record in saying that this is going to be a special class. I can't remember the last time I saw so many elite pins in a class. Given the school choices and timing/attrition, it would come as no surprise to me to see many 2025 players as All Americans by their sophomore year, and I think we could see numerous players from this class on our future Olympic team - like 2005 numbers.

It’s so exciting! To have read through the first 2 pages of this thread with no mention of Vander Wal, I was shocked. She is the #1 recruit in this class. I’m so excited to see all of the pins in this class & what they can do at the next level!

I’m still so excited for Wander Wal would asking for your personal top tier be too much?! genuinely curious I haven't watched the class of 2025 since last club season, and surely after this club season my opinions can change drastically. My general observations are that while Spears and Mullen are very good, they are over-hyped. As all around pins going to the usual prospect schools, I really like Vander Wal (Texas), Quest (Wisconsin), Demaria (Stanford), Kinney (Minnesota), Sigler (Nebraska) - all of these are better prospects than anyone in the 2024 class and, from what I've seen so far, the 2026 class too. But there are also some big time players that are being overlooked that I think will do big things for their teams very early on - Davis (BYU), Tindall (Purdue), Vinson (Indiana). I also think Lucy Chertock could be a POY type player in a mid-major conference. IMO the most intriguing player in the class is Musgrove. Not sure what her plan is at A&M, but I think she has a high ceiling to be a true 6-2 setter/hitter - not that garbage hybrid mediocrity we see from players these days like Fairbanks - but a true, elite, impact S/OH like Ashley Engle.

I agree about Spears. her tape doesn’t impress me nearly as much as Vander Wal’s. like whole different ballpark. you’re absolutely right that she’s still good but I’d be lying through my teeth if I said I was even close to excited about her as I was AVW. I like Sigler too. the rest I’m somewhat unfamiliar with. that’s interesting about Musgrove… I tend to dislike S/Opp’s nowadays like you seem to, so that should be really interesting to watch.
