Hopefully someone ( bluepenquin) will create a proper Big12 2023 thread. Starting the thread with “Usually I couldn’t care less about this conference” is never a good look….

This is kind of a pet peeve of mine in general. If you're going to create a thread for a team or conference, put some effort into the OP.

Hopefully someone ( bluepenquin ) will create a proper Big12 2023 thread. Starting the thread with “Usually I couldn’t care less about this conference” is never a good look…. I had some thoughts I felt like getting out there and nobody had made a thread related to the conference three months after the conclusion of the 2022 season. Tbh I assumed someone would eventually make a nicer one and I would of course support that. Nobody's stopping you. As for the quoted sentence, I actually think that emphasized my point that this was a *particularly* exciting offseason for the Big 12 (in my view) because of the new teams joining, who I felt warranted a space for discussion. Beyond that, sue me <3

UCF should be really good, too. Why? They lose Melville(!) and their starting setter. I don't even know if UCF will make the tournament? UCF needs a new coach now too.

Hopefully next week - I plan to count down the 13 teams in the Big 12 for next season with a summary of key losses, additions, and projected lineup. Below was the final Pablo rankings - which serves as a starting point. Near as I can tell - this conference is likely to have 6 very good teams this year. Kansas, Houston, and TCU just killed the transfer portal game for the offseason. Baylor brings in another outstanding Freshman class. And Texas and BYU are just great programs and will always be good. It also looks like 2-4 programs are going to be significantly worse this year.
1. Texas 17. BYU 20. UCF 23. Kansas 25. Baylor 28. Houston 42. TCU 48. Kansas State 49. Oklahoma 50. Texas Tech 51. Iowa State 134. West Virginia 137. Cincinnati

If someone is legitimately upset about jwvolley having a more casual first post than what others would prefer, the time to make a new more impressive first post regarding the Big 12 will be before bluepenquin starts his Big 12 outlook. I love jwvolley as a poster, and have no problems with his post being the first one, regardless of how casual it is. But I'm also sympathetic to someone else who has a more intrinsic interest in the conference providing the first post, especially if they're willing to put some time into it. This past offseason, the first Texas thread was started by a troll - which jwvolley most certainly is not - so we had to have someone create a new thread that we could post on. I'm just saying there's a recent precedence. It's not that big of a deal. My first vote would be redcard redcard is the best poster by far of updating all the Big 12 results. They post with limited bias. They've been responsible for previous Big 12 threads. redcard, if you're interested, and you're up for it, I'm nominating you to create a new Big 12 thread that bluepenquin can post their summary on. Not trying to send you into the coal mine to dig up coal if you're not interested in it. But if you are, I think you're the ideal candidate to start a new Big 12 thread. I want to reiterate, this is not intended as any kind of attack on jwvolley. I have no issues if this thread remains the Big 12 thread for the rest of the year. But if we're going in a different direction - and I seriously doubt jwvolley will take it personally if we do, although I'm not trying to speak for him - now is the time to do it. I'll also say if someone is passionate about it, has some ideas on how to create an impressive first post, and wants to take the reins, I say go for it. Don't wait for redcard. But if redcard has an interest in it, I feel like they're the ideal candidate. bluepenquin could also create a new thread with their summaries. I feel like that would be a great way to go as well. Not trying to tell people what to do. I'm okay with whatever. But concerns were raised - legitimate concerns, even if I didn't share the point of view - so I wanted to point out that the time to address those concerns is now, rather than later.

I think it’s time for your posts to include a TLDR You wouldn’t be the first to say that. I’m never changing. I always recommend the little scroll wheel in the middle of the mouse, among other solutions. I’ll also say I like longer posts from others. I think we lean into our collective shorter attention spans in ways that keep us from effectively communicating with one another. But regardless, you’ll never see a TLDR from me. Not that it’s a bad suggestion. Just not my thing.

I will start with #13 tomorrow. 10 through 13 is close to interchangeable. Just no way of knowing which Freshman may step up (there always are some).
Still having a very hard time differentiating between #2 and #5 - and #6 is very good and deserves to be in that mix. #7 to #9 is intriguing to me. #1 is obvious.
And then - there still can be more transfers that changes things.

TCU got Brianna Green (Denver) on 5/14. She was 1st team all conference in The Summit League. And this was a significant get for them given that they lost Makayla Myers and needed another MB and have 5 legit OH's on their team. Kansas got Toyosi Onabanjo (Iowa) on 5/31 - which was also important given that they lost both starting MB's from last year and could greatly use that depth. I don't know that this is the end of the transfers for the year? But these were two significant transfers in the last month.

I'm not really sure on that. But the deadline to enter the portal has passed.

He simply didn't offer Akana one, and then couldn't offer Caffey one without being penalized an additional scholarship the next season. He did do his best to sabotage any potential attempt by Caffey to go somewhere else, though. And he certainly threw Akana under the bus regarding her reason for transferring. Nebraska went through last year down a scholarship player compared to everyone else because that scholarship was saved for Caffey. He just couldn't give it to her because it would mean he would lose 2 scholarships this year as a penalty.
