Penn State is a given in the Final 4 because they gotta take one team from the EIVA. As for the MIVA, it's Ohio State, Lewis, Ball State or Loyola. The MPSF is always wide open and competitive. Pepperdine is returning virtually everyone. So is Hawaii.

Are you kidding? It is a little bit early for this, but I voted for LBSU - out of loyalty and I really think they are going to do much better this year. They don't have any seniors, but they do have some very experienced Juniors and Sophomores and a couple of outstanding Freshman. ;D

Don't overlook IPFW. Ptak is healthy (and touching 12') and has gotten much stronger(everyone came back in great shape), Zybciewski is almost recovered, middles are above average, and the setter is primed for a good year. They have a chip on their shoulder and are out to prove the last 2 years were bad luck. They need things to go their way to win the MIVA, but after the last 2 seasons, they are certainly due.

Pepp did very well in Canada last week. Had 3 on the All Tournament team. Good sign, IMO.

Didn't Pepperdine lose a lot of players? Sure, they have their go-to players in Keenan and Rooney, but they lost players like Walker, Daniels, Van Reuson, and Olson. They return only three starters. Am I correct on this or am I mistaken?

Pepp's Rooney and Keenan were All Tournament players in Canada, and Fred Winters was MVP for NCAA teams. (They had separate honors for the Canadian school players.)

Yes I agree it's still early for this post.
But what's the word on the Bruins? On paper they had a solid team last year, but injuries ultimately were their undoing. They only lost Komer to graduation (but in him lose a big part of their passing), and return all other starters (including those that had to fill in for the injured). You gotta think Scates liked the development of his younger players last year during all that. If Acosta's back holds out, they'll be strong.
What are they up to this Fall? And what's the dynamic been like with Sealy joining the coaching staff?

Matt Motter was ready to go Pepperdine. However, last minute he decided to go to Hawaii. He'll probably be the starting libero for Hawaii, then in start at OH in 2004. His beach partner in San Diego, Kimo Tuyay, had something to do with Matt coming to the Islands. Hawaii will be the Best Passing Team in the Country. Zymet, Motter, Costas, Ching and Tuyay gives Hawaii some great passers and diggers.

The deal is that both he and Scates thought he had one more year of eligibility, but because of a mission trip and another complication (I can't recall what it was), Mount's time has run out @ UCLA.

People are overestimating Hawaii and underestimating Pepperdine. Remember, this Pepp team was dominant last year and they didn't lost much in the way of talent.

I agree that people are overestimating Hawaii somewhat. But they are the team to beat this year. Motter won't be half the libero Vernon was though. Same with whoever plays M2. Dejan will be tough to replace too. But I still think Pepp is not going to be that great this year. I dont know how you can say they didnt lose much talent. They lost half their starting lineup! Thats losing a lot of talent to me. If Ka improves a lot, then they will be fairly good, but right now he isn't that great of a setter.
