With only 8 teams, there might be an incentive to have all teams have a shot at a post-season championship, leading to a play-in like in men's NCAA VB or some conference tournaments where top seeds get a bye in the first/early round. I can see the upside to that, but the argument against it (and it's a big one) is that makes the regular season absolutely meaningless.

I mean tbf… that’s true across the entire board in most pro sports

I can see the upside to that, but the argument against it (and it's a big one) is that makes the regular season absolutely meaningless. I mean tbf… that’s true across the entire board in most pro sports I hear people trying to make that argument. I disagree most of the time. The NHL finally has it where only 50% of the teams make the playoffs. Playoff seedings, hosting cities, and draft position dictated by regular season record mean something to me. I don't like neutral-site championship games.

In a new league where you're trying to generate interest and help the franchise locations get established, not allowing all the teams to sustain play-off hopes is counter-productive to that. Later on, if and when there are many more teams and the league is established, it's less significant to have some teams not advance.

There's also the argument that if you're marketing yourself as "Real" (meaning a traditional American sports league) you need a traditional sports playoff format.

Ok. Jumping the gun and assuming Dallas and Indianapolis: I'm thinking no conferences or divisions for the first year and going straight best four teams in the playoffs. While I think this would be awesome, I doubt it'll happen, so, East and West or North and South? I kind of like N/S. With Nebraska, Grand Rapids, Indy and Columbus in the North and San Diego, Dallas, Orlando and Atlanta in the South. I know the Southern Conference would probably get more media attention, but so be it for season one. If they wanted to get some media attention they could get controversial with the names of the Conferences: The Yankee Conference and the Rebel Conference. But that's just my hedonistic, evil side showing. 😈 It't not Indy. It's another West Coast location and a Texas location ... both of which which will be announced soon. No idea on league format. Edited to add they already have several more 2nd round of additions for 2025 teams in the works.

i think someone in the league said it was going to be a final four. That’s prolly when they still only had four confirmed teams. Math.

Well, then I'm equally in favor of East/West as, if this is true, then my Rise won't be stuck in the west playing games at 10pm EST all the time.
