I called it earlier - but while 5-7 was good enough to make the finals last year (Thailand)... there may be a 7-5 team left out this year.
As long as China beats DR tonight - that gets them to 7 wins, with Korea remaining - China would be a lock. Poland, USA, Turkey already in.
Germany locks themselves with any win vs. Serbia or USA. Brazil does the same with any win vs. Turkey or Thailand, but, it's also possible that either Germany/Brazil have already done enough depending on what else happens.
Japan should be able to win 2/3 from Thailand, Italy, and Netherlands which would lock them, but it's possible just one of those wins would be good enough.
Italy beats Croatia and Japan and they are guaranteed into the finals. A loss to Japan and they might be out.

Is queen Maglio gonna roof her way to another upset I hope they give her credit for that last block. I was watching stats closely and her, Gray and Van Ryk all had 13 points awhile back and Maglio still has 13 points and she had two more points, and no credit. : ( That ball clearly touched her hand. Aside from that, one of the worst games Canada has played at the VNL along with their loss to Thailand. They really need to have better scheduling because that was more like 14.5 hours between matches by the time they finished the Brazil match compared to Italy who had a full day and a half rest. Especially in the final week of the first round, it can really put teams at a disadvantage and even more so the teams without a lot of depth. At least a few players are free now to enjoy Howe's wedding now. Did she know something we didn't by scheduling the same week as the finals? 😢 I hope they show more fight against the Netherlands because that third set was kinda sad to watch. |

Really strange refereeing decisions. In at least two challenges the point was unduly given to Canada (in one replay the touch was seen). Too bad because the match was distorted, I hope only by incompetence. I disagree that Canada was given it unduly in two challenges. One, yes. But, Danesi should have got a card first before the ref did his own challenge to reverse the call. The ref let it go a long time and then decided to check the video again. |

Canada has a quick turnaround for this match. They've been riding their starters (with a couple injuries). A fresh Italy will be a very tough test for them. But let's gooo! What injuries if I don't mind asking? Van Ryk and Maglio. |
