Didn’t Newberry play 2s last year? I know she was injured, but 5s? Seems a bit too low. Are no coaches challenging this? I think the 2’s are undefeated so hard to question that.

UCLA's 1s, 2s, and 3s are established teams this season, so what should coaches challenge? That UCLA didn't insert Newberry into one of those teams and break them up? Sure, Newberry/Whitmarsh could probably play at 4s but Smith/Monserez have been winning at the position too.

USC in trouble on Courts 1 and 2 against TCU. All comes down to Court 5!! Fight On! Way to avenge the loss to TCU from early in the season and what a great display of grit. With the 1s taking a rare loss, the Trojan women at the 3s-5s carried the day.

Just wondering: Has there been any consideration of moving the whole season a few weeks later? Seems like you would have better weather over a wide range of the country. If you play on the gulf coast, you could get thunderstorms any time of year. There’s no dry season in Gulf Shores.

👍👍 Did not know Denaburg played #1 her entire career. Incredible. something Boyd will no doubt repeat, as the blocker though.

Seems like you would have better weather over a wide range of the country. the vast majority of colleges in the country are on the semester system... start in late Aug, finish 2nd week of May. Your suggestion would have Championships 3-4 weeks after school is out. Stanford as I'm sure you know is Quarters, as is UCLA and all UC schools except Berkeley. So is Caltech and both Chicago schools ... U of Chicago and Northwestern . Just about everyone else is semester. UCLA undergrads often complain that most summer jobs start 3rd or 4th week of May, and they're effectively shut out of that system, with school ending mid June. Having been in both systems, I strongly prefer Quarters.

Mmmm, Abby VanWinkle was Savvy Simo’s blocker at Court 1 during the entire abbreviated 2020 season (15 matches). Denaburg didn’t replace AVW until the 2021 season. The McNamaras were #1 their entire career, from their very first Bruin match. Sara Hughes and Tina Graudina would be the Trojan equivalents.

It's the viewers fault for believing anything Sam Gore said today. I know the east coast teams and he constantly stated inaccuracies about TCU, FSU and LSU. I didn't know if he was wrong when he gave facts about West coast teams, but I sure didn't trust anything he said.

If you play on the gulf coast, you could get thunderstorms any time of year. There’s no dry season in Gulf Shores. I wasn't actually referring to the gulf coast or even the championship specifically (though that is part of it).
I was thinking more about the start of the season, beginning in late February, when the weather in many places is still cool and rainy. Like the Pacific Coast (Washington, Oregon, and northern California), and the mid-South (Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.). If you want to grow the game, waiting for better weather might help. As to semesters vs. quarters schedules, I am very familiar with both. My counterexample is college baseball, where the CWS stretches into late June. Of course, baseball is obviously a well-established sport, so maybe colleges are more willing to deal with a sport that lasts well past the end of the school year, rather than for an emerging niche sport like beach volleyball.

UCLA Men's Indoor Volleyball won NCAA Championship #20 this afternoon. Should the Bruins win on the Beach tomorrow, that would be a significant double for Indoor + Beach.
It was equally significant in 1984, when UCLA Men's and Women's Indoor Volleyball teams both won NCAA titles.
I looked and don't find a year that UCLA Softball and Baseball won Natties in the same year, though it was as close as can be in 2010 Softball won, but Baseball finished runner-up.
