The run time makes sense and to have "real-time" updates they'd pretty much have to run constantly - would it even be possible???
And, thanks for doing what you're doing. It makes the season more interesting and the board more fun. I'll send in some $$ to Rich Kern in appreciation.

The run time makes sense and to have "real-time" updates they'd pretty much have to run constantly - would it even be possible??? Not in the current format. You have to realize that, ultimately, this isn't that sophisticated. In fact, this year I switched the fitting routine to a feature that comes standard in Excel called the "solver." Unfortunately, the standard solver package in excel is only set to handle 200 variables, so in order to handle the 300+ teams in NCAA D1, I bought an add-in package for it to expand its capabilities. What this means, though, is that if you have a league of fewer than 200 teams, you can do all of Pablo rankings using the standard excel. I used to do the fitting using a visual basic macro that I wrote (with Rich's help), but that was a brute force, numerical approach. The solver uses an analytical approach and gives a more accurate solution. Then I waste it all by rounding off to the nearest 5. Given the excel interface, I think it would be very hard to do things continuously. BTW, if you want to donate money to Rich, that's great. I won't get any, unless he has enough to fund additional needs. For example, the improved solver program was something I bought, and it doesn't come cheap. Moreover, it is only expanded the capability to 400, so running DIII means I have to do it piecemeal. Similarly, I have played around with other things, like assigning a "road" rating and "home" rating for every team. However, this is well beyond my solver capabilities. There is a delux version of solver, that can do it, but that costs something like $1200. I don't think I will be getting that any time soon.

Good win for Ohio. Not surprised they won, but surprised they swept.
For the Vol fans, is Amy Morris now the full time libero? If so, I think that's a good move, cause her defense is great, but her offense, not so much.

Good win for Ohio. Not surprised they won, but surprised they swept. And if you had been there, what was even more surprising was how they were completely dominated. It never really was all that close. Ohio handled them solidly all three games.

I'm really shocked that UT wasn't more successful, particularly on the offensive side. Are they struggling to pass the ball or what's going on? Is having two lefties play OH not working out?

As has been mentioned a couple of times in a couple of places - Geoff is doing a really nice job at Ohio and they were simply the better team this night. Personally, I'm glad his team is doing so well. Particularly since he was courted by some larger programs this spring, but chose to stay at Ohio and continue to develop the program he has been building.

Hey Simple, I would stya at Ohio myself if I was a coach. Athens is nice, good volleyball program and when they give you good money to stay......I would! ESTRELLA

Plus, it's Athens, Ohio--heaven on earth.
Maya Lin's birthplace--and mine (her brother was my friend).
