Arizona wins 3-1.The fourth game was very close.Carolina is playing pretty good considering their injuries.OH Dani Nyenhuis(shoulder)still can`t be an offensive threat.MH Amy Beaver is playing despite injuries(achilles and shoulder).OH Meg Eckert has been out with a back injury. One positive to the injuries is that UNC is giving several freshmen a lot of PT which may help later in the season.
If/when Carolina can get their starters healthy, then they can be a very good team as they make a run in the ACC.

I saw some of UNC last year from the ACC tourney that was televised. I thought they looked scrappy and pretty well organized. It seems from the stats that they battled hard vs. AZ today.
If Dani isn't 100% as you say, why would the coach let her take 46 swings? In a 4 game match that's pretty high as the other OH only took one more than she did. Were you there uncfan ? Perhaps some of these attmpts were not full bore ? Interesting. I wish the team luck in their ACC schedule.

This was the first tournament this season where Nyenhuis really did any hitting. My thought is that they are trying to get her ready for ACC action which begins next weekend. If healthy,Dani is definitely the go to hitter. She is still not 100%.

At this point, I'm reduced to examining box scores. I noticed that both UNC middles made the all tournament team yet the outsides still get more than 75% of the sets.
Has Joe shifted from Byrd to Jansma or is he still expecting to rotate each match?
One of the big puzzlers to me remains the sheer number of hitting errors from the outside. The staff has 2 ex setters to work on set choice. I know that Ihenetu has a tendency to hit a little low, but what's with the high error rate? Is it the hitters or the set choices?
I'm still optimistic about UNC this year, my guess though is that they'll have to settle on a lineup. Has Eckert ever played right?
I'm generally worried about the national profile of the ACC right now. Only Maryland seemed to have much of a preseason run. Other than that, the league did very little to make an argument that it deserves any more than 2 berths in the NCAA.

At this point,I wouldn`t put too much emphasis on Maryland`s "preseason run".They have played a weak schedule so far:
Marshall Rutgers Texas - Arlington Pitt Miami(OH) American U. Fordham Central Conn. St. Peters
At least UNC has played pretty good against two Top 20 teams(Purdue and Arizona).

Yes, even 2 may be optimistic. I don't take that much solace in going 4 against good teams. UNC has a roster w/ 4 or is it 5 fab 50's on it if I"m counting right. Eckert, Jansma, Nyenhuis, Beaver. and I can't remember about Ihenetu. That doesn't exactly add up to having your best preseason win be UCONN. I know the injuries have been a problem at UNC, but I do have to wonder what's up with the ACC as a whole. Why do they seem to be gett less rather than more competitive at the national level?
