They have tried that, and the setting wasn't good. I do think Duke wants to use their young setters, but our setters just haven't really panned out the last few years. The last two grad transfers, Devon Chang and Emma Worthington have been significant upgrades. This is the last year they are going to be using a grad setter anyway (crosses fingers).

Some portal updates: Ella committed to Notre Dame & I think our staff has backed off Bella D'Amico. I wonder if they have another setter in mind. In addition, I'm pretty sure Duke tried to go after Ellie Bolton, who ended up at SMU, which is a good sign that the staff is prioritizing fixing our passing. Wouldn't be shocked if admissions hurt our chances there.

Some Duke updates:
-Our incoming class has officially been announced so hello to Avery Hamlin (OH/OPP), Malinh Godschall (DS/L), Breonna Goss (MB) & Taylor Williams (OH). They will arrive over the summer. Nice to finally have a backup OPP. 

-We are playing our usual spring game against UNC on March 22nd. I would be curious in how the setting looks between Millie & Nikki Q & how the OHs look.

-After striking out on another setter after Bella retired, looks like Duke has settled on Boston College's Grace Penn. She's played a 6-2 her entire time there. From watching BC, she looks fine. However, getting Penn does leave me with some questions.

This team doesn't have the personnel to run a 6-2 full time especially now with Gracie gone, our OHs are a even bigger question mark. Kerry cannot afford to come off the floor. Maybe an occasional double sub though. 

I wouldn't say Quinn was expected to start. She redshirted this year so there's no telling where she's at in comparison to Millie Muir. Could be either one.

Duke played a spring game against Elon on March 5th. Not much has come out about it, wasn't advertised ahead of time so seemed like it was closed to the public. They won though. Some things to note was that Millie Muir wasn't dressed so Nikki Quinn was the setter for the entire match and Rylie Kadel (MB) wasn't playing either so Ngozi Iloh & Georgia Stavrinides were the middles for the entire match. Sydney Tomlak & Nikki Underwood are battling it out at Libero. Grace Thrower might have saw some time at OPP. 

I think one of the starting lineups was:

OH1: Taylor Atkinson
OH2: Rachel Richardson
MB1: Georgia Stavrindes
MB2: Ngozi Iloh
S: Nikki Quinn
OPP: Kerry Keefe
L: Nikki Underwood


Duke is playing UNC this week @triangle which should be interesting. Hopefully someone goes and gives some info on how things are looking specifically at OH.

Tiff Paalman (Green Bay) got accepted into grad school so that will be another middle on the 2024 roster.

No problem! At the moment, probs. We just lost too much compared to other ACC teams to be as competitive as we were last year. We won't be Syracuse/Virginia Tech bad though so things could be worse. 

In relation to this, Yale's Audrey Leak entered the portal a couple of days ago. The last few months, I've said this team could use a grad OH (granted a 6-ro) but even a 3-ro experienced OH could be good for this team. Duke looks to be interested in her but so are a couple of other P5 schools like Kansas, Northwestern & West Virginia.If we are able to get her, things could get interesting. I think incoming freshmen Taylor Williams could be the OH1 and an OH duo of Williams/Leak and Keefe on the right is solid. 

I did notice in one of the videos for the spring matches that Kerry was hitting from the left which could be interesting. Taylor Williams has shown she can hit from the left and the right, so I wonder if Duke is trying to get Kerry used to the left in case we want to have Taylor Williams hit from the right this season. 

In other Duke news, Jess Robinson looks to be going pro, Taylor Williams was named to the VolleyballMag Fab 50 list & Charlotte Glass was recognized as a player to watch for 2025.
