I know I may have been the one who originally brought that up - but, I still think it should count as a first, or maybe a second round pick as a middle ground? I'm curious to hear others opinions. I think ay mentioned just having a returning pick as a thing for everyone and newbies get assigned an old roster from the year before, but, I don't know, I feel like there should be some type of risk-reward for the returning pick. Is your original proposal that if you pre-designate a player from your own team (not sure how to get around the newbies for next year), you lose your first two draft picks? No way would I say one player should count as 2 first-rounder, that's crazy. I think I originally tossed the idea around that before the draft order is revealed, you designate if you want a returner or not. If you say yes, you get your guaranteed returner, and forgo your draft pick in the 1st round. So basically, not everyone has to designate a returner and you could just play your luck normal with the draft and if you wanted a returner as a 1st round, you could still theoretically get them. But on second thought, I was thinking, maybe a middle-ground would be doing that the 1st round draft picks are normal - and if you designated you wanted a returner pre-draft, you would forgo your 2nd round pick for the returner you picked. But in either option - you could still give a roster randomly to the newbies from the old players leaving.

Congrats to GCU on the Championship and auto-bid. Great team, and best of luck in the tourney! Sad for my SFA Ladyjacks though. I haven't been keeping up on bracketology (sorry trojansc), but I hope SFA can still make it with their only conference loss coming tonight. :/

Also, really proud of Ball State for fighting back from down 0-2 against a very good Bowling Green team, but falling 14-16 in the 5th. Thank you, @ Megan Wielonski!

I think I could get on board with the following re the returning player idea: Before the draft order is revealed, all returning Fantasy teams have the option of pre-designating a player from their final prior year fantasy roster to be on their current year roster. The pre-designation is kept secret until AFTER the draft order is revealed. Once the draft order is revealed, no more pre-designations can be made. If the returning Fantasy team elects to pre-designate a player from their final prior year fantasy roster, that player will be their first round pick and the Fantasy team forfeits their second round pick window - the second round pick can be made during the teams third round window.

As long as the player replaced their 1st round pick, I don't feel they should lose their 2nd round pick too. Basically, in your proposal, what could happen is someone could pick a returner player to come back, and if they have the last draft spot, they wouldn't be able to pick another player until pick #42(!!) came back to them.... that's too harsh (IMO). I think it would be fine to just not pick a 1st round player if you take one of your returning players back. But again, curious on others takes on how a returner pick could be handled.

I was thinking about it recently, having the possibility of an IR (Injured Reserved) spot on the roster like in other fantasy sports. I know we don't get the coverage and public announcements of injuries like other sports but if we have a player who hasn't played two weeks in a row (ZERO sets), we can move them to the IR spot and add another player on if they want to. And once that player returns to action, the following week that player has to come off the IR and then one player has to be dropped to make room for them (if they elect to add someone).
Just a thought. We didn't really have of an issue this season, but in the situation you drafted/added a good player but it's too risky of a move to drop them in case they do come back and someone else takes them. It's always a bummer to see players sit on the roster not knowing if they will play soon or at all the rest of the season

But the would be at the very extreme case - also, if a number of teams pre-designate those are additional pick windows where nobody is drafted. Essentially in my proposal: 1-14: Everyone gets the top player they want 15 - 28: If you pre-designate, you lose your chance to make a pick in this window 29 - 42: Everyone gets the player they want + the pre-designated players get to make up their round two window After thinking about it, I do like the idea of there being SOME sort of "penalty/risk" for essentially getting to keep a player you want. In my original proposal, on the extreme case side, the idea that vballfreak808 could keep Fischer AND get to pick first...

It looks like the league is going to come down to uofaGRAD vs. eazy, with vballfreak808 finishing 2nd or 3rd. Eazy's matches are actually so close that it looks like they could actually tie (again) and still win the tie-breakers with vballfreak/uofagrad to win the league. I think the most likely scenario is the league comes down to eazy vs. madden. If eazy wins - eazy takes 1st. If madden wins, uofagrad takes 1st. AY needs to make up too much ground in both matches, vballfan doesn't look like they will catch uofagrad's numbers now either.

As of right now Macall Peed has 1 dig in 2 sets... the reigning Big West Libero of the Year and most likely will repeat has 1 dig... sigh. But aces are so up and down so it can change in favor of vballfan and my digs can go down below agean's. I'm going to need my third libero Kendra Wait to up her 0.67 digs per set average.

I would need to think a little more before any sort of official vote, but I have to believe I’d be inclined to want a returner that takes the place of your first round pick (decided pre-draft order release), NO SECOND ROUND PENALTY. Of course, I would say we would need to vote on team eligibility before having to make that designation.
I’d be in favor of a singular IR spot, OR that a player that misses two weeks of action can be DROPPED without an add/drop being counted. I might like that better.
I’d be in favor of a wildcard player (any non-eligible player). My only caveat though is that I would have to think that would lower the probably of wanting a returner. I wonder if doing wildcard next year, and then add returners the next would be best.
I know y’all have messed with active rosters and roster size, but I really liked the active roster structure this season. I would fight for free add/drops through noncon I think… or keep the 2 week period but raise the add/drops to like 10. I like having the best fantasy players on teams.
I like per set scoring, don’t think I’d ever wanna do per match. Still would not a fan of hitting percentage as a category. Anything else I’m missing?🤣

I still think replacing 1st round pick with a returner would be sufficient enough for risk/reward. The idea originally was just so people could keep their favorite player.

in the (albeit) few returner leagues i've participated in, the draft order was left at random and everyone got to return one player. newbies got assigned on old player's roster to pick from.
im not sure yet whether im for or against returners as a whole though yet lol. i think it completely depends on whether a wildcard was allowed

I think a wildcard + returner combination would make it even more interesting actually. But that would depend on what the eligbility is anyways. I think I like a 2-week+10, 3-week+7, or 4-week+5 add/drop structure for the free/add-drop period. Per match adds an interesting aspect of luck but there is skill with it too. For example, you KNOW WKU is going to sweep 3-0 so much because they don't schedule anyone and always dominate their conference. Then it becomes a draft timing thing - Lauren Matthews value changes so much in a per-match vs. per-set scoring. I like per match too, but I don't necessarily enjoy it more than per set. Someone asked awhile ago about how to work in is 'winning'. Could there ever be a way to make 'winning' matter, even if ever so-marginally. Like maybe a specific amount of bonus per category if a player wins some/all of their matches for a week they get a +.50 bonus kills, +1.00 assists, +0.10 aces, +0.40 digs, some random assigned amount. That was the only easy way I thought of.
