Thanks to
vup for volunteering to admin the champions league this upcoming fall. Not sure which rule change admins will decide v the collective, but these would generally be my thoughts as to your list:
Number of Matches - I liked the two matches per week we did last year. For sure added some intrigue to the league.
Wild Card Player(s) - I generally like the idea, but it depends on how big the player pool already is (see below). Would also need to decide if it's use it and lose it or if it's an open spot on the roster indefinitely (i.e. you can swap out the wild card spot on the roster)
Retain Player - I'm in favor of this, the only question is how it's administered. I guess the easiest thing to do is that everyone gets a freebie pick from their returning roster (those that didn't play last year would get randomly assigned a roster from the prior year) and then set the draft per normal. If vballfreak is lucky enough to keep Fischer and get to pick first again, so be it (*shrug*). I really don't think that the winner of the league is determined by the first few rounds anyway. The other option was a proposal I made earlier in the thread which essentially says that IF you decide to pre-designate a player from your team last year, that player is your first round pick and your 2nd round pick comes AFTER those that didn't elect to pre-designate.
Active Rosters - 10 including 3 anys seems to be the most prevalent active roster composition
Full Rosters - rather than doing an injury reserve (not sure how this would work, also seems to just add more unnecessary up keep) I'd just vote to expand the full roster to 18.
Player Pool: If we do go up to 18+ players per roster, that's over 250 players that will be drafted....that's a lot. I like the idea of a wild card pick, but if we had an expanded player pool to begin with, it might mitigate the need for wild card picks. If we went by RPI as of the end of the regular season (https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/volleyball-women/d1/ncaa-womens-volleyball-rpi) I see a very nice mix of conferences in the top 150 (last year I think our team database was somewhere in the 120's, but we has 28 fewer players to have on a roster). If we went by RPI top 150 + 1 wild card addition (use it and lose it) for the season, that could open up the best mix of teams and strategy without having a true free for all. Or I could see P4 + Top 100 AVCA + NCAA Tournament teams (this gets us to the same 120 ish teams) + two wild card additions for the season.
Positions - I thought the rules crafted last season were very fair. Also, how would it work? Going by a 10 person active roster, if you HAVE to use players who qualify for multiple positions in the 3 any slots (which was the rule last year), you couldn't have more than 6 OH's (3 primary and 3 in the any) or 4 setters (1 primary and 3 in the any) on an active roster in any given week.
Members - Given how many weeks are in the regular season, 14 members in the league seems to work best
