Is there a standard for who does the match thread when both teams have someone ready? (E.g. when MN plays IL) Home team’s poster makes the thread? Visiting team’s poster makes it? Fastest poster wins? Fastest poster in general. To me there’s some weight given to who does the best job. There is an inordinate amount of effort invested in some of the threads. Images, links, appropriate color schemes, and what not. I really hate when a slapd1ck effort gets rewarded with traffic when there’s someone who really takes the time to put up a superior effort getting their’s ready. But to be honest that’s such a rarity. The community is so good about recognizing folks who really put extra effort into this stuff. I also want to say that rainbowbadger is my favorite thread creator. Everyone who does this stuff is great, but he consistently makes me laugh out loud and adds so much colorful commentary on a regular basis in his original post. Not to take anything away from anyone else. I also don’t mind when someone slaps something up there when a thread hasn’t been created. basil for sure makes the best Texas match threads, but really every Texas match is going to get traffic, so when someone else puts one up for the sake of discussion, like UofAgrad did a few times, it’s helpful. But I’d say it’s the first quality match thread that goes up that gets used, and then the ones that put extra effort into it know who each other are and they tend to be very friendly about it. It’s not supposed to be a competition, and I’ve found because of that it generally isn’t.

Is there a standard for who does the match thread when both teams have someone ready? (E.g. when MN plays IL) Home team’s poster makes the thread? Visiting team’s poster makes it? Fastest poster wins? Whenever there's a match between Illinois and a team that has a regular match thread maker, the approach I try to take is to reach out to the other person well ahead of time (at least a week before the match) to coordinate who will make the thread. For the Big Ten the past couple seasons, only Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Nebraska have had match thread makers who regularly make their match threads. We usually just communicate among each other to make sure we're on the same page. Rainbowbadger is covering Wisconsin again this year, I'm covering Illinois, and Nebraska is TBD (ilikecorn covered them last year and has yet to weigh in this year). Making match threads for non-conference matches and tournaments is less predictable but the same principle applies, at least for me. There aren't that many teams with designated match thread makers and I'll keep updating the first post of this thread ahead of the season so we can get a feel for who's planning to cover which team. Stanford, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, and Louisville have folks who are also planning to make their match threads and the rest of the Pac-12 is usually covered by a few devoted thread makers. Hawaii and Texas will also likely be covered each week. I'm planning to create and update a thread that lists all the match threads that are made each week and that's a good place to go if folks are wondering if a match thread's been made. In that same thread, we'll try to do some additional coordinating of match thread creation each week, with an emphasis on covering Top 25 matches. We'll also try to cover the remaining Big Ten teams during the conference schedule and we'll try to coordinate that before each week in that same thread. It can be frustrating when you start working on a thread only to see that someone made one before you finish. All of the coordination and communication mentioned above is intended to guard against having two threads created for the same match.

Hi, friends (and frenemies)! See Arnold above… 💙🧡 Are you back?? I could probably do some of the Florida match threads. Likely wouldn’t be anything crazy, but I could try!

Are there any teams which do NOT have a match-thread creator, for which people would like one?

I'm “back” but probably not thread-ready lol. I’m rusty. We can message about coverage. Corn likes to do them too sometimes. Thank you!

I know I can't be the only one that's curious how some of the more complex features are implemented into threads... I've dipped my toes in for a couple team threads and kinda figured it out as I went but would be interested to learn more for some teams that aren't already covered. Is there an instruction manual or something similar I can find?

Is there an instruction manual or something similar I can find? Not that I’m aware of (though I considered making one with what I’m doing, and looking up what others do). It’s not always comprehensible unless you copy and paste it to a text document and then add returns and whitespace, but pressing <reply> and then looking at the bbCode that is in the quoted text can be quite helpful, if you do that to a match post whose format you like (or just to get a feature from). I’m writing all of my match-threads in a text editor, and then pasting the contents of it into a Create-Post box. I check it with the “preview” option to make sure there aren’t things that are terribly wrong… though it doesn’t always show width problems in table cells, or other issues which aren’t properly displayed in the preview. My template for matches is still evolving, but should be pretty much set in another couple weeks.

Has anyone started a PSU-UF thread?

Has anyone started a PSU-UF thread? You’re listed as a “maybe” (question-mark) for Florida. No one is listed for PSU. So…. No?
