I'm not sure what I'd pick, but I was curious what the OTN (Off the Net, i.e. you reading this) community would pick. (Movies preferred, but TV show props are also acceptable.)
For something big and impractical I'd pick the shaggy dog van from Dumb and Dumber. More realistically I'd pick a DeLorean from Back to the Future, but a vehicle in general is fairly impractical. Maybe I'd pick Wilson from Cast Away. I'd have to think about this more, but the idea popped into my head so I wanted to ask.

Something from Lucasfilm. Not sure if it would be artwork or a physical prop.
I saw an exhibition called Art of Star Wars back in 1995, where it was showing in San Francisco for several months. They apparently didn't want to move them too far from the Lucasfilm archive which was in Marin County back then, although I heard it later went to DC at The Smithsonian. But maybe one of the original matte paintings. I saw one of the new Death Star and as a joke one of the stormtroopers was drawn with a smily face. Or another matte painting of the new Death Star with a pattern of the Transamerica Pyramid building. They also had some interesting stuff there like an actual Yoda puppet.
Maybe a whip from the Indiana Jones series?

The talking car from Knight Rider with Hasselhoff. I was thinking the Maltese Falcon but it’s not the most valuable prop apparently. These Are the Most Expensive Movie Props Ever Sold 1 Robby the Robot - Sold at $5,375,000. 2 James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 - Sold at $4,600,000. ... 3 Marilyn Monroe's White 'Subway' Dress - Sold at $4,600,000. ... 4 The Maltese Falcon - Sold at $4,100,000. ... 5 Audrey Hepburn's Ascot Dress - Sold at $3,700,000 movieweb.com/most-expensive-props-ever-sold/

I have a prop samurai sword (katana) from the movie Highlander, used by Christopher Lambert. Long story, and I don't know how many people even remember that flick. Had Sean Connery and one of my favorite character actors (Clancy Brown) in it.
As for which one I would choose...maybe Indy's hat and whip. Or the "Wonderboy" bat used by Roy Hobbs in The Natural, one of my favorite movies. Although I'd probably most dig the black Falcon GT muscle car Mel Gibson drove in The Road Warrior. Now that would be a fun drive down PCH...

I can't think of any reason why I would want to own any movie prop.
For sentimental reasons? I love movies and TV shows but there's nothing in any movie -- favorite or otherwise -- that screams, "Wolfgang, you must have __________ or your life is meaningless." Nope. Other people can own Marilyn Monroe's white dress or one of those Star Trek phasers. It's not my thing.
What about as an investor? I think the time and energy spent to think like a buyer and ultimate seller of these movie props are just too much for me. I'm trying to enjoy the twilight of my years by spending money on cruises, food, big boy toys and not necessarily to make more money. I'm past the income generation phase of my life.
Hmmm...what about as a socialite? Am I the type to host parties for the sole purpose of showing off all my prized possessions (like movie props) to earn social capital? Ugh... I don't go to parties all that often anymore. When I do go (e.g., family events, former coworker events, neighborhood events), I feel drained of energy afterwards rather than energized by it. And I definitely don't host parties anymore at my house. OMG...the trash, the $$$ on caterers, the endless hours talking to people about meaningless crap, the cheerful front I have to put up to show how pleased I am to see these people. No way for me.
Would the movie prop be functionally useful? I doubt it. I mean, the light saber can't even cut into cardboard!

James Bond's Aston Martin DB5
But I'll settle for the Superformance GT40 Mk II replica used in Ford vs Ferrari.

I'd love one of the police cruisers used as the Bluesmobile. I'd also take the model used with the spider/human head for The Thing. Snake Plissken's leather jacket OR the presidential pod (then make the pod comfy as a living room chair)

The Delorean from Back To The Future. I know a guy who had one. His vanity plate was ‘coke’.
