Was channel surfing and, surprise! I came across a volleyball game--Florida versus Florida State on the Fox College Sports (FCS) station. Heard about CSTV and ESPNCS (?) but not FCS. Anyway Florida won (20, 23, 16). Just saw the last part of the third game. Many long rallies with both teams getting impressive digs. Mary and commentators praised Florida's defense, with excellent blocking and digging. Florida had 59 digs.

Just got back from the match. Florida played very well. They put on a blocking and digging clinic tonight. Kisya was a monster tonight( I say that often it seems), 9 kills, 9 blocks(4 solo, 5 assists) and even 6 digs. She might just end up being an AA this year. She is getting better every single match. Marcie, Amber, Kari and Angie also played very well. Jane led all players with 11 kills, but she didn't have a very good night. Hit under .200 and 6 service errors. Rhian Davis had her best match as a Gator, nothing hit the floor if it was near her. Defensively, that was the best match I've seen from Florida this year. They held FSU to .016 hitting, negative in games 1 and 3. Still a work in progress, they really need to clean up their service errors, but they are getting better and that's all you can ask for.

Florida State was my pick for surprise team of the year. Well, I'm surprised anyhow.

Florida State was my pick for surprise team of the year. Well, I'm surprised anyhow. They've had some injuries, but even so, they should be better. I just think they are poorly coached.

I only got to see the third game because I actually believed the onscreen guide on when the match started (it is usually wrong on the FCS channels, so I should have known) I am in the minority on this board in thinking Todd Kress is a good coach, but I have to admit that FSU looked clueless in the third game. Their passing was bad, their setting was bad, and their blocks got overpowered routinely. If not for UF service errors, they might not have scored at all. Kind of hard to tell how good Florida is against a team struggling so badly. Killingsworth looks to have the physique to dominate the net. If she is there in position on the block, she just seems to form a huge wall that you can't get around, especially on middle attacks.
