Yup. I'll admit that I'm probably a stick in the mud, so other people might not have thought it was so bad. (My nearby fans were in agreement, though maybe they're sticks in the mud, too.) I love to see the students (and other student-athletes) come out to cheer on and support the VB team. I don't love it so much when the heckling of servers (and sideline athletes) gets rude and leans lewd. For sure! I’ll admit sometimes I wish the gopher student crowd was more rowdy but no need to be gross. Wasn’t aware of that from my couch. I appreciate that it was you not approving of the behavior against the VISITING team. At northwestern in 2021 I saw some of their male athletes being gross by our bench and didn’t like it but wondered if I was just biased and being a stick in the mud. I'm a student who usually sits in the student section on the locker room side. But it was clear to me even during the Wisconsin-Baylor match that these students were crossing the line, so I went to the student section on the other end to watch the Gophers-TCU match. I assume they had been drinking, which of course is no excuse.

Yes, they were drinking as evidenced by the spilled beer, the beer splashed on the back of my wife's legs when they crushed a beer can, and the barroom smell from the spilled beer. I enjoy a loud and rambunctious student section and we have had that before. But, this group was plain dispectful and a poor representation of the U and the athletic program. And, that they were wearing, what appeared to be program issued, MN VB shirts with player numbers reflects poorly on the program.

I’ve never understood why the pav doesn’t have one larger designated student section. I know logistically it may not make sense, but fans get rowdy. Have you watched matches at Purdue? Please note: I don’t think it’s okay if the student section was being disrespectful, but I do think it helps with energy and excitement to have a student section that’s getting into the game. Were lines crossed? Based on what everyone is saying, probably. But I think it’s okay for a student section to have fun and get into the match and a little trash talk is fine as long as it’s in good taste.

Don’t quote me on this but I think those guys (with the volleyball shirts) are part of the men’s club volleyball team at the U.

I loud and energetic student section is great. A drunk student section is not. And, these guys were. Actually, there were maybe 3 who were probably had to much to drink.

I think Mel and some of the girls are good friends with them. Not 100% sure though.

On the broadcast I believe they pointed them out as the wrestling team. They looked more like wrestlers than vb guys to me.

Happy to report that the same group was there for the Baylor match and were all we hope for the student section to be - loud, energetic, and fun. Talked to one one of the group after and he said that when they looked back on the TCU match that they agreed that they were a bit out of hand. He said that VB is a great sport to watch and maybe just behind football. Set him straight on that opinion! 😁 Should be fun to have them around the rest of the year.

* Overheard after the game: A couple of fans in the premium courtside seats complaining that the student section was too rowdy and rambunctious Making just shy of lewd comments about the opposing team's players. Also, drinking and possibly drunk. Based on what Gopher athletes have said, they can't actually hear what the rowdy, rambunctious, or rude fans are saying... which means that it's just the other fans who are forced to listen. They mentioned on the B1G stream that they were Gophers wrestlers. Also, having Parra right in your lap must be challenging as a fan. It'd be so tempting to need to stretch my legs out a bit when she starts just serving from off the court.
