Hartsock Wins Second MWC Award
by Jen Connery, BYU Athletic Communications
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 19, 2005) --- BYU middle blocker Lindsy Hartsock has been selected the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Co-Player of the Week, along with Utah's Shelly Sommerfeldt, after being named the Buckeye Classic Tournament MVP. This is the second award of the season and third career award for Hartsock.
"This is definitely a reflection on my team," said Hartsock. "When everyone contributes like we did, it's so much easier to be successful as a team. I was really proud of the way we played this weekend and the way we came back and handled the adversity."
Hartsock, from Inkom, Utah, led the Cougars to a 2-0 record at the Buckeye Classic in Columbus, Ohio, last week, including a 3-2 upset of No. 14 Ohio State, on the way to winning tournament MVP honors. In a five-game win vs. Duke, she tallied 12 kills, three digs and two total blocks, while hitting .310. Against the 14th-ranked Buckeyes, Hartsock tied her career-high with 20 kills as part of her .500 hitting efficiency. She also turned in three digs, three blocks and an assist as BYU defeated its highest ranked opponent since Sept. 13, 2003 (8th-ranked Penn State).
On the week, Hartsock averaged 3.20 kills per game and had a hitting percentage of .415 (32-5-65), while tallying six digs, five total blocks and one assist. She currently leads the league in hitting percentage on the season with a .440 mark and was ranked 10th in the nation in that category as of Sept. 13th.
"This acknowledgement from the Mountain West Conference not only rewards Lindsy for her recent performance, but recognizes the overall performance of our team," said BYU head coach Jason Watson. "As we continue to improve and progress, we'll look further to Lindsy to provide us with direction. "
Sommerfeldt, a 6-1 senior from Orem, Utah, helped Utah to a 2-0 record at the Hampton Inn Classic in Salt Lake City, including a five-game upset win over 17th-ranked Santa Clara.

Inkom, Utah? I thought it was Inkom, Idaho. And Hartsock looks a bit leaner this year.....
Congrats to both players...
