Let's go Hogsssss, wooo pig or whatever. 5'7 Gillen is gunna tear up that 6'7/6'9 block (probably not, but like dang that would be boss if she did) Smaller hitters bring long experience of how to exploit the block. They can be tricky. Badgers did well enough against somewhat undersized hitters last weekend, but they better not get too confident.

Deme Morales agrees.
I remember when Deme was playing against Texas in the semi-final and making the blockers look like headless chickens. The announcers even mentioned that the JE had to bring in smaller blockers to try and handle her. I couldn't help but laugh at the situation.

Obviously, the Arkansas defense has to start from the serving line. I imagine that is true against any team team they face. If the badger passing starts becoming problematic, then it makes it easier to defend. The badger passers and setters will have their work cut out for them.

I think this is what Sheffield is trying to develop with this year's team. He knows every team they play will gameplan them to serve tough and take the MH out of the offense. Force OOS sets. Try an expose our serve receive. Their emphasis on OOS attacking is designed to neutralize some of that impact. It will be the same story every match. Sheffield said that was a focus this year.

Landfair 1.7 on 57 balls, Wucherer 1.71 on 17 balls, Murr 1.69 on 8 balls
as a team they passed a 1.75 - ouch

It's impressive the Minnesota won a set and came close in the last given those passing numbers. ( I thought they were bad, but they didn't strike me as that uniformly bad).

Wisconsin is going to win in 2 because Arkansas isn't going to want to play a third game. Wisconsin plays a different game because they are so big and strong. Almost looks like a mens team

Maggie Cartwright is also originally from Kimberly, Wisconsin. Getting to play against Wisconsin has to be pretty cool for her. They have one of my favorite in-state high school mascots: They are the Papermakers, and their mascot is the paper wasp. Much better than the nearby Kaukauna Galloping Ghost which feels like it may have some bad historical connotations.

This article suggests it had to do with the color of their uniforms and a Halloween game. www.nfhs.org/articles/unusual-nicknames-kaukauna-galloping-ghosts/#

I got a chuckle out of this as as I was reading some threads this AM:
Aug 28, 2023 at 7:53pm jwvolley said: Texas needs to aggressively target Wucherer and Landfair with serve if they want to win. Especially seam between the two when possible. Not groundbreaking strategy, but the passing by those two, despite Minnesota's results, was really quite poor on the weekend.
I guess Keegan Cook wasn't paying as much attention as JW going into the match.
