HistoryThe series: Tennessee 2-1 Last meeting: The Lady Vols defeated the Badgers in 2 sets, 15-11 & 15-8, on November 7, 1981 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Did you know…? Tennessee has 12 official state songs.
The song most commonly associated with the University of Tennessee, Rocky Top, was first written and recorded by the Osborne Brothers in 1967, but it rose to prominence in 1969, when Lynn Anderson’s record reached #17 on the Country Music charts. Rocky Top was not played at a UT football game until 1972, but eventually the Pride of the Southland Band began playing it at every game. It officially became Tennessee’s fifth state song 10 years later, in 1982. The song has been covered by everyone from Conway Twitty and John Denver to Phish.
Dolly Parton also regularly performs the song, and she even sung it when delivering the commencement address at UT in 2009 (the legend herself actually appears at about 7:16 in the video below).
Other Tennessee state songs include The Tennessee Waltz, Smokey Mountain Rain, and the most recent addition, Steve Earle’s Copperhead Road.

This line from the State Journal preview cracked me up: Last meeting: The Badgers lost 11-15, 8-15 on Nov. 7, 1981 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Just how off everything in that sentence looks tells you it's been a minute.

This should be an interesting match, since both of the teams get massive production out of their right pins. I’m excited to see Fingall in person.

Bump bump: Links, deets, and fun facts added. Unlikely, but early in his career Steve Earle played a Sunday afternoon show associated to a 4th of July civic celebration at a bandstand in my hometown of Appleton. And unlikely, I happened to be home right then. And as unlikely, my mom was along with me and my sister and sat through the show. Afterward, we walked up to ask him where he was from, where his family was from, etc. He said (I think) Tennessee back a ways. We have Earle great grandparent level relatives from Louisville. He allowed that maybe there was some Kentucky in there somewhere. So we decided that maybe we're distant cousins. But it's unlikely.

I love that Copperhead Road, a song about growing cannabis, was made the official state song of a state where weed is still very illegal… and they did it on 4/20. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/tennessee-state-song-copperhead-road-marijuana-420-1234720797/amp/

Looks like I'm going to be able to watch this match. Didn't think I'd have the opportunity.

Pregame
Sheff: Arkansas: Hard time learning how to deal with the serve. A lot of craziness is due to teams not knowing each other. Arkansas ran slide a lot on RS when they had never had run it in previous matches. Badgers had decided to ignore RS. Second night they figured a lot out, but loved the fight in the first match. Orzol: Has gotten better on defense. Worked hard on it. Banner drop: Love the recognition, but it's for the fans. Love having Shanel back to talk to the team.
White: Got better as match wore on in both matches. Shows ability to learn and adjust within matches. Have to avoid getting into big holes. Tennessee. New setter, Jenaiysa Moore is a big addition who can hit out of system. Fingall who can hit from all around the court.
