true, but if we were in a 5-1, MJ could come in to serve for Franklin or the serving middle (CC right now) what does a 5-1 do that a 6-2 with a DS doesnt if damrow isnt playable? there's enough subs for a 6-2 with a DS, even if cook's tournament sub debacle makes people think differently oh, I'm not advocating for a 5-1, just that MJ serve isn't a big reason to keep a 6-2. But, you could have MJ serve sub for the serving middle, and then have Boyer in as the DS, even if damrow isn't playable, IMO. But, you'll still have attackers picking on Izzy because of her height.

The old middle double contact. Yeah that call was bupkus. CC has good hands. agreed! I was audibly booing at home along with the audience with that call.

I really enjoyed watching Arizona tonight. It makes me want to go on Saturday to see them take on Miami. But it's opposite UW football on TV. Game time decision...

so why doesn't wisconsin run a 5-1? too many good pin options or ashburn height front row? Honestly I think it's as simple as having two good setters, neither exceptional, and two good front row opposites, but neither a good back row player. Maybe Ashburn sets a 5-1 if she's a better blocker, but I honestly don't think it's her blocking that is the deal breaker.

Smrek is hitting .446, 2.17 kills per set. Which one is coming off the floor in this 5-1 offense?

As fortunate of a recruit as Morgan Van Wie is for us, she ain't running a 6-2 with Fuerbringer.

Less than half a kill at a .194 clip is unacceptable as a middle, she needs to be more terminal.

Honestly I thought their pins hung with us, the floor defense and passing just let them down.

Orzol really has to just take control of the back row. When she does, UW wins. mmmmhmmmmmm -circa 2021

What's with so many teams playing to the level of their opponent this year? Arizona goes five with GRAND CANYON, but also shows up looking half decent against Wisco. Maybe the gap between teams is just shrinking each year?

If Crawford doesn't get better offensively, she might sit next year and we move Devyn back to middle. Less than half a kill at a .194 clip is unacceptable as a middle, she needs to be more terminal. CC is in there for her defense. Full stop. She may not get as many blocks as Booth, or hit the quick or 31 ball as well, but she closes to the pin very well for someone her height and that's worth quite a few block touches per game. But yes, it's very possible that CC is the one who ends up sitting with the pin glut. And if we move one of those two back to middle, I wonder if it would be Anna instead of Devyn, as Devyn is clearly a better right side hitter (Anna still gets a lot of her offense in the middle) and Anna, though she's still slow to the pins, isn't unusually slow for someone 6'9". Or maybe Devyn learns to pass and becomes an outside, keeping Orzol at libero. I remember Karch Kiraly joked about this in one of the tournament matches when she was playing middle.
