sky had 5 kills no errors in set 2 after having 2k, 4 errors in set 1... that tells practically the whole story lol. wijay is something serious... im just baffled that she wasnt starting day 1 and that it took some UGLY losses for her to finally crack the lineup. Wijay should still be a high school senior , she reclassified last minute and joined USC just prior to the season starting and is still adjusting and learning college volleyball life

You spend a lot of time in the USC practice gym? That's good to know. wijay has been a MUCH more efficient left side (on a bigger workload than kaylah was getting at outside), while also passing better, and defending EXPONENTIALLY better. i think it's fair to raise the question. i mean usc looks night and day different with her out there, even with mia out. i have a lot of sympathy for kaylah, trying to switch positions as a FIFTH YEAR has to be incredibly difficult, but wijay has looked better at every facet of the game (except blocking ofc somewhat) and i just wonder how she was kept on the bench. maybe it was because she looked poor in practice or kaylah was balling out! me wondering how she was kept off the court is nothing more than me wondering lol, i dont have insight into the USC program. granted, they put lazaro on the bench and then she took her team to the natty the next season, so if someone did want to be shady, they most definitely could find a way! i just wonder the reason for this specific one because wijay just looks SO dynamic out there

Wijay reclassified late, and not only was not there in the Spring and Summer, but was late to fall and had something like a week on the team before their first match. I don't think she was really ready to step in the first three weekends and it was appropriate that they waited until last weekend. Even then, she needs some help on the court. She was out of rotation late in set 5, Kalyah saw it and they pushed her into the right spot just in time. There are going to be some speed bumps with a 17 year old junior, but her ball control and her ability to adjust to out of system sets have been fantastic and exactly what they needed.

Which is reasonable, given she only got into the gym a few days before their first tournament while she finished her requirements to graduate early. And her debut at Hawaii was forgettable (got hammered in serve receive and wasn't prepared for the speed on defense). I think the coaches have done a good job of giving her time to acclimate and not throwing her to the wolves so that, now, in week 4, her confidence is solid and she's able to perform. The goal for all teams is to improve over the season. With a lot of moving pieces and the slate of injuries in the off-season that meant never training with the full group, USC spent the first few weeks figuring who they were. They're improving every match. The goal is to be your best at the end of the season. And as to your point on Lazaro, she's a lovely human being, a good volleyball player, and super nice kid. But to say she "led" her team is quite the statement. Chausee and Tillman led that team, along with Scott. Lazaro fit well there because she didn't need to lead. When there's pressure, she gets chaotic, hence why she got benched in those matches to settle down.

There were times where she was subbed in the first two weeks and her age definitely was showing. At one point I questioned if her reclassifying was a good decision. But not anymore that’s for sure. She needed time to get acclimated to the college game and now that she is, man she’s a stud. And trust me, I have questioned kellers coaching decisions A LOT, but this wasn’t one of them

A Canadian is the one who can't be civil in a VB forum? I think the Doomsday Clock just moved forward another 30 seconds.

This match on the PAC12 Network reminded me of how good the B1G broadcasts are. And UCLA, along with CAL, have the 2nd and 3rd worst floors for watching VB on TV. Cal is a little worse because of that giant CAL logo in the middle. The light floor color with even lighter white boundary lines make it a task to watch. (Not the mention the high camera angles.) Of course, Oregon still holds the crown for 'toughest to watch' on TV. TCU says "hi"

But, yeah, that TCU floor looks horrifying for TV watching. Almost makes Oregon's floor look vanilla.

I can’t believe Leverette lost her starting position to Hendrickson I was surprised to see Leverette play at all or even dress for the game. I heard she didn't practice all week due to the hit on the head during the Oklahoma match. I'm excited to see what UCLA will do when the team has their head coach full time and a few more healthy players.
