She has only played two sets vs High Point and to me seemed nervous and had a couple of errors. So IDK, I'm just speculating that maybe the coaching staff is going to red shirt her this year so she'll have 4 full years at libero. She can't redshirt if she's played, unless it ends up being a medical redshirt which I never hope for anyone Ok, thanks for the information. For some reason I thought there was a threshold where a player could still redshirt. So it appears that the only reason for her not playing currently is that she's being outplayed in practice. She's been warming up with the team at matches, correct? For anyone who has been able to watch the pre-match warm ups, how is she looking when they serve and pass?

It's a little confusing but you're right that there is a threshold, it's for medical redshirts only tho.

From informedathlete.com/student-athlete-mental-health-issues-and-ncaa-medical-hardship-waivers/As stated in the NCAA guidelines for a Medical Hardship Waiver: “Contemporaneous medical documentation from a physician or medical doctor that establishes the student-athlete’s inability to compete for the remainder of the playing season as a result of an injury or illness shall be submitted with any hardship-waiver request…..For circumstances involving psychological or mental illnesses, the required contemporaneous or other appropriate medical documentation may be provided by an individual who is qualified and licensed to diagnose and treat the particular illness (e.g., psychologist).”

Correct me if I’m wrong… but didn’t Iowa take Purdue and Penn state to 5 last season? Not sure, but I do recall the 2016 Gophers winning a 5-setter in Iowa City too. In 2016 the Gophers (led by Wilhite, SSS, the Tapps, Lohman - great team) came into Iowa City ranked #3 and the Hawkeyes let a g5 lead slip to a 15-11 loss. Brutal. That 2016 Iowa team with Loxley Keala setting was very good (and my fav) but couldn't quite get the breaks and get over the hump into the Tourney. Fun team to watch and root for. Had Iowa won, the victory would not have been vacated.

18 kills in 5 sets? oof! EDIT: I would have expected more from her in 5 sets Are you trolling? If your outside hits over .400, I'd say that's pretty good. Not at all. It was a legitimate question and expectation of her having more than 18 kills in 5 sets without being able to see the match. I also stated that in an earlier thread. Also, I said nothing about her hitting percentage, as I agree that over .400 is outstanding, not just pretty good Another user already pointed out that Minnesota spread out the offense pretty well, which makes sense as to the number of kills she had. So no, I am not trolling. I'm actually happy she had a great night.

33 (76-43) according to the stats-thing. Somewhat deceiving stat. MN dominated & won Sets 1, 3 & 5 by a combined 29 pts. IA won sets 2 & 4 by a combined 7 pts. I don't find it deceiving, although you are correct in that it was an usual 5 setter in that the overall point difference was lopsided in one team's favor. What was interesting to me was that Minnesota had no difficulty getting kills and Iowa wasn't giving away points left and right through errors. Iowa's problem wasn't in giving away points and Minnesota, conversely, wasn't the lucky beneficiary of an opponent shooting itself in the foot. Rather, Iowa simply wasn't able to terminate.

I remember that match as well, We were up by a few in the middle of the fifth, then Minnesota got fired up and Rolled down the stretch to take it. I think Barnes is on his way to getting that back what momentum Bond was having, but I think it is gonna be a slower process.

A friend of mine ran into Bond. Sounded like there was a lot of mutual respect between him and Barnes.

As always, there is so much we do not know. Maybe she had missed a session with a tutor. Maybe she came late to a practice. Maybe she needs to achieve some goals in the classroom before she can play. The best we can do is be glad she's joined the team and assume the coaches will use her when she's ready.

I Know who wins. Not sure how many sets. I knew how many sets. Just didn’t want to spoil.

Good news Bad news There is a replay of the match www.foxsports.com/replay/c438e9e42f73fe0b69eb2f902f36ad7fthe gap from 22-14 MN in set 3 until 60% of set 4 was over was not filled. I would surely have liked to see the hole that MN dug for themselves in the first part of the 4th set. Hawkeye radio does have GREAT audio coverage with that good analyst John Evans. Their broadcast also lost the end of the 3rd set "the internet went down in the arena", but they were back on the air for the start of set4
