AZ put up a fight in the 3rd, but Stanford finished it 25-23. Baird did not have a good day, but Kipp and Rubin went off.

I thought Rita was going to challenge that last point. It looked like she thought someone was in the net.

Fun match for a Card fan. Nice to see the dance at the end; TV coverage rarely shows it anymore (it seems to me).

Glad Hambly gave Blyashov a chance - she passed really well in those 3/4 serve receives. I think sometimes we just have to be realistic - if Baird has a terrible match (which is happening more often recently), Hambly has two top OH recruits in Blyashov and Harvey that are both waiting in the bench.

Seems like Baird only wants to show up for the big games. Thank God for Kipp and Rubin for going off today. This could have ended up as a long, ugly match.

I just don’t get it, I mean Rubin can better the ball but still the Miner Baird connection is not there.

Miss kipp with 20 kills and 8 aces… how can you not say mother Almost 10 points a set…. she’s on another level In addition to 20 kills and 8 aces, she had 2 blocks so 9.67/set. Amazing match! On Friday, she had 18.5 points and hit .393 What a weekend for Kipp!
Rubin was also amazing. She had 14 points and hit .400 on Friday and 18 points and hit .593 today.

I just don’t get it, I mean Rubin can better the ball but still the Miner Baird connection is not there. Yeah, I don't even know what to think. I totally agree that Miner and Rubin have a great connection; those sets with pace that Rubin clearly trusts and can make a full quick approach and her full extension and powerful snap down are a thing of beauty. I have been generally supportive of using the 'easier' matches to work on and hone the less conventional attacks from the pins; the well placed tips and pushes down over and under the block etc. I assume that Hambly has been supporting this because Kipp has also been doing her share - and I don't think that these are always a result of missed connections. I think these are great tools to have in the modern game. But, Baird has been bringing the heat so rarely in recent games. I wonder if it is more a physical thing right now rather than motivation or the connection. She is otherwise grown in her all around game IMO and is nowhere near the passing liability that she was once. I still really like her play and I have no intention of putting her down. But, I think it is clear that *something* is making her not hit comfortably with heat as much as she has been capable of.

I liked that move today. But, I think Hambly has shown that he is a coach that really likes to stick with his main squad. I like that he used some of the few easier pre-conference matches to get those two some playing time. It was not all roses though. I'm sure valuable lessons were learned. But, I really wonder how much he is willing to trust either of them this season in clutch situations unless someone is injured. We'll see.
