UCI, under new head coach John Speraw, beat Pepperdine in 3 Monday night. Speraw's team came to play this weekend leaving this tournament undefeated. Nice work Irvine.

Wow, that's impressive. Congrats to UCI. Glad to see that they're doing good with Speraw. I wonder if UCI is that good, or Pepp is that bad. But I hope its the former.

Pepperdine isnt that bad at all, they always just start the season off slow. UCI played really well, not to take any credit away from them, but Pepperdine did this last year too, they lost in 3 straight to UCI the first tourney of the season and then came back and beat them in confrence twice, both matches being 3 straight, Pepperdine is young, give them some time and they will come around, just like last year.

VBFan is right. It took Pepp awhile last season to settle in with Daniels as a setter... now the only returners are Keenan, Rooney & Winters. Let's give this team some time. Luckily March and April matter a whole lot more than January!

No this is not the case this year. They have issues with ball control. That is not going to correct itself. Can't pass/ can't play. The sophomore setters are adequate at best. Pepp will struggle this year, as compared to the Pepp we are all use to.

I wouldn't put much stock in the beginning of the season for ANY team...some teams peak early in the season only to fall flat by the end of the season, while others keep building momentum during the year...case in point, Hawaii. No one expected them to win the Finals (me included), let alone do well as they did.
They struggled early in the season, but finished as a tremendously strong (and hungry) team of bulldogs, never quitting. As I predicted earlier, EVERY team has a shot this year. Don't discount UCI, Santa Barbara, Pacific, or anyone this year. We'll be surprised on WHO is still standing at the end of the season. Barring injuries, ineligibilities, etc. it should prove to be a competitive and CLOSE race to the Finals. Enjoy.
