I trust that Phaedrus knows the situation.
I disagree that Miami shouldn't have been able to move with more urgency, especially since it has been stated that this is a very important situation for the SWA. More could have been done in the last 8-10 weeks.
Carolyn publicly announced her retirement on Oct 31 which means it was known internally much before that. Having a Head Coach before Jan 1 should have been a target. With what has been reported here, it doesn't sound like interviews have progressed and a decision is still at least a couple weeks off. All this leaves a lot up in the air for current student-athletes and potential recruits.
I very much want this to be a great hire for Miami and believe they could quickly re-ascend to the top of the MAC.

As someone who is looking into becoming a graduate assistant, anyone on here with advice on how to look for a position for the future? Graduate assistant coaches started disappearing from DI many years ago. Some of them were moved into ops/support roles but a lot of them went FT or PT. Maybe the paid 3rd assistant spot will mean smaller schools hire some GAs. I would look to DII and DIII schools, especially. Google is helpful, as is just picking up the phone and calling coaches to ask if they have GA funding because sometimes places do and haven't filled the role.

Normally I’d agree Merv but there’s still a ton of schools using GA’s in coaching and ops roles. Off the top of my head Oregon has a GA technical coordinator, I’d bet over half of the NEC, MAAC, Southland, and OVC rely heavily on GA’s. As far as big time programs go yes they’re funding paid coaches. When it comes to looking for GA positions just reach out, they turn over pretty regularly since masters programs can be quick. If you’re interested in a school email their staff and see if they need one! I think mcneese advertised on here to hire one earlier. I believe mercer uses two GA’s to coach, North Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana had a post on last years jobs board too. Best career advice I ever got was just ask

Best career advice I ever got was just ask Northwestern State in Natchitoches Louisiana (the location we have discussed here in the past) will need a GA for Fall '24. One thing missed about El Paso is Chico's Tacos, so those will be required with a handle like chico. Contact Stacey Aldredge for more information difrancescoa@nsula.edu

Menlo College is transitioning from NAIA to NCAA DII starting Fall of '24. Starting salary is 120k. Looks like a great salary, but can you live in SanFran for that much? I used to work at Menlo. Everyone except those at the top lived in the East Bay and/or had roommates. I lived in San Mateo for a while but only because our apartment was under market rate for the first year. Then it was off to the East Bay and a one-hour commute. The campus is lovely, Atherton is exclusive, and everyone knew each other well because we only had 750 students. Interesting that they're moving up to DII. At the time, they had the last NAIA or small school football program in the Bay Area, but they closed it due to lack of cash across the board. I left in 2016, so maybe they're more stable now. On the DI front, it looks like Arizona has taken down its AC posting. I haven't received a press release yet, though. I know they're under a hiring freeze over a financial mess they made, but I didn’t think it affected coaches. Hopefully a release soon.

Will the last person leaving Washington State volleyball please turn off the lights. With the school's/department's fiscal problems, that may not be an issue.

Wow, does this mean WSU didn’t consider her for the head coaching opening or that she didn’t want any part of the mess left behind there, didn’t bother going for it and took Nevada?
