“Chris was highly recommended to me by Kelly Sheffield, head coach at Wisconsin, who just won a national championship,” Gawlik, a former college volleyball and basketball player and Wisconsin’s senior associate AD, said at the time of the hiring. “We are thrilled to get someone of that caliber.” Not a good look. The assistant's comments are much worse. Has anyone hired her this year? Yikes. Like, some seriously unhinged quotes there.

Literally nobody is surprised by any of this. His history of behavior is well documented and well known within the community - as are the embellishments on his resume. The more surprising thing is how he keeps fooling hiring committees at NCAA jobs to hire him - and the coaches who willingly put their name behind him for recommendations. Was shocked when he was hired this time around.

Chris is an egomaniac that thinks he has all the answers and doesn’t give a sh*t what other people think. His own insecurities have created this image he has of himself that he is some volleyball savant and master coach, but he has no clue that coaching is more about how you relate and interact with young people vs being a controlling taskmaster who puts players through drills. If the AD had a spine she would cut him loose.

Was shocked when he was hired this time around. It’s a genuine mystery how he keeps getting jobs. The next time he gets hired, if he gets hired, all of you who know of his past, need to contact the AD, Asst AD, club director, chancellor, president of university, principal, or whatever people in positions of power, and let them know. This kind of stuff happens when people stay quiet or use vague terms or blanket statements. Give specifics and help them do their due diligence. Sorry if they didn’t already do it. You are being quiet and cute, when people can be abused later on down the line.

Because if you knew, and stayed quiet, you have some responsibility for this.

Unless you’re going to demand Wisconsin fires Kelly for endorsing him as well? These things aren’t new. The AD knew this going into it, and just like how the admin and AD are ignoring all of the players and their own faculty’s complaints, why would they listen to a complaint immediately after the hire based on a history that a simple google search could’ve pulled up? There’s an issue with the hiring process AND what is required to let go of a coach to save a dollar.

You are being quiet and cute, when people can be abused later on down the line. Bullsh*t. How much direct interaction do you think the average person has with ADs in the hiring process? And what good do you think it would do AFTER they’ve hired him. “Excuse me. AD, but the guy you hired is a first class piece of crap. You should fire him immediately.” Yeah, that’s not happening. What we need is for the old boys club to stop protecting their own. People get jobs on the recommendation of others and if that recommendation comes from the “right” person, apparently ADs don’t even do a cursory google search or background of any kind. And here we are.

And here we are. I agree somewhat. I said, after this kind of person gets hired, you contact everyone in positions of power. Not just the AD. And you direct them where to find the info on this coach’s past. And then you contact the local newspaper, and anyone to prevent this kind of abuse from happening again to anyone. Yes, 98% of who gets hired is based on who you know. Absolutely. But there have been many times where shortly after being hired, a new coach is fired for lying on their resume or new information coming to light.

Yet the weird part is there are still coaches and clubs that speak highly of his time with them.
