The consensus three best setters in the country methinks mmm there might be a couple I take above Bergen for just this season, but she’s still awesome. I just can’t in good conscience but her in the same tier as Miner and Pukis for now. Stucky was head and shoulders above her too but Yeah I would def put Stucky ahead of Bergen. poor girl I need her back plz

And here I am just noticing that Gonzales hit .474 herself. She silently just does her job, and is effective most of the time.

UW just had no answer to the ducks’ speedy offense! Blocking nonexistent (see: Ducks’ staggeringly high hitting percentage).
I miss May and Emoni.

Back from the match. From the perspective of a UW fan, the first two sets were very disappointing because Oregon was not playing their A game (and probably not their B game either). Had the Huskies just cleaned things up a little bit, they could have taken at least one of these sets, if not both. The third set was more indicative of the gulf between the two teams -- Oregon stopped being the primary source of UW points through service errors, and stopped playing down to the level of the Huskies. Right now, especially with Bush and Pertofsky injured, there is a huge difference between these teams in both experience and talent.
Matt Ulmer gets props for recruiting three transfers who are game changers: Pukis, McGhee, and Gonzales. The Huskies can and should recruit transfers at this level. I was especially impressed with McGhee, both offensively and defensively. While Oregon is a joy to watch when they are flowing and I love watching Pukis set, this is a team capable of some pretty wild swings between sublime volleyball and cringe-worthy volleyball. If they can iron out the inconsistencies, they will go far.
As for the Huskies, they certainly played better than Friday night and I thought Molly Wilson in particular had a nice match. My guess is that Bays is back at libero for good. Zilbert did a generally great job as her replacement but it makes more sense to give more reps to a player who will be back for at least one more season (Zilbert is gone after this year). Barton seems to have lost her way though she showed flashes of what she can do in the middle of the third set. The middles got a few more sets than usual and did a little bit more with them than usual. I'd like to see more of that. More than anything, we need a healthy May Pertofsky back for the last three weeks of the season. She could help pull the Huskies across the finishing line.

Pukis is ridiculous. First setter I’ve seen in a while (maybe since Carlini?) who is so aggressive about feeding her middles and makes tough sets look easy, getting her hitters so many 1 on 1s. I feel like we don’t see many back-1s anymore and her connection with McGhee is a thing of beauty. So fun to watch.

She can launch a set at a ridiculously low level on her body or close to the floor and make it hittable. Her fast sets to Gonzales in particular are breathtaking. And she just has an effortless quality to her setting. As a former setter, I love all this. One area she can work on: serving.

Today her serving was rough, but coming into the game she had 21 aces to 28 errors which is a good ratio. Looks like it was just a bad day for her (and all of Oregon) at the service line.
