Ok I guess looking at the team roster, they did leave some room open to grab a few picks.
So the team needed depth at middle, but they drafted 3 of them?
I thought that the team needed some depth at Opposite too. But only one and they passed on Kipp and a few others on the board. I guess they felt really confident with Reed?

Isn't this a little too much room? I feel like they should play it in a smaller gym, like Louisville's. Being from Omaha and observing some of the other franchises/leagues that have entered/left the market (or gone away entirely), I feel like CHI will be a good fit for the 1st season. After that, I dunno, but I also don't know where else to put them either. Another poster said it appears they may have already sold 4,000+ season tix. That eliminates some of the other potential venues in the area. DJ Sokol (Creighton) holds 2900, so not really an option. Baxter is just under 8,000, but also hosts Omaha Maverick Volleyball, both basketball programs, and the hockey team, so finding open dates would be a struggle for a good chunk of the season. Liberty First Credit Union Arena (Ralston) holds about 4,600 for basketball it looks like, but while it's walking distance for me, it is probably a little small. The MAC in Council Bluffs holds 7,000, but "Omaha" playing in Council Bluffs might be too much of a drive for the (likely) West Omaha crowd. I believe the Lancer years at the MAC were kind of rough. I mean, I'll drive places for certain things, but I still tend to stay in a relatively small radius from my house. I'm sure I've forgotten a place as arenas seem to get built in the Omaha metro too often. In the past, other franchises/leagues tend to do really well for a couple of years, then kind of pitter out for a variety off issues. I also believe the CHI is just too big long term, but for the first year, and especially the first game, I wouldn't be surprised to see that place with over 10,000 people fairly regularly. Baxter would be the best fit, size and location-wise, but I understand what you’re saying about the schedule being full there. |
