25-5-51 hitting .392 for Landfair, defense still needs work but she's stepping up her hustle. I think that deserves a pat on the back and an atta girl!
edit: and 26.5 points 🔥

The team came out quite shabby in the first set, no life at all and many tips instead of full swings. Glad to see the team come back with energy for the rest of the match. No MB connection at all is maddening! Also maddening to see dropped balls when NOONE goes for it or should take it when Shaff can't get to it. Good blocking at times. Taylor was great today!
The rally win at point 18 or 19 in the second set is worth the price of admission! If you didn't get a chance to watch the match try to see it cuz it was simply amazing!

1. Nice close win; maybe this fight is just what the team needs. 2. Don’t understand the Mcghie sub/value at all 3. All three middles look lost 4. Surprised to see Murr with only 11 digs; thought it would have been closer to 20. 5. Landfair was a beast at the net. 6. Some passing struggles, but thought it looked improved.

Minnesota seemed to right the ship after a ragged first set
They were behind early in set 2 but never by more than 1 After the 9-9 tie MN was tied or led for the balance of of set 2. After going up 14-10 NW squared the match at 16s, but that was the last tie.
In set 3 MN last trailed at 6-7 MN led, by no more than 2, or were tied until 20-20 MN won 2 points to go up 22-20, then 22-21, then scored the last 3 for 25-21
In set 4 MN led all the way and built a 6pt lead at 17-11 NW scored the next 5 for 17-16. t.o. and then a NW SE. 18-16 MN the next 2 for 20-16 after getting aced twice and committing HEs NW took the lead for the first time: 21-22 a great Grote kill then Grote SE: 22-23 a NW HE two good serves by Hanson led to a transition kill for TayLa and a Hanson ace to close the door
Glass half full: they bent and broke in the first set, but bent yet persevered for the balance In the 4th set, when they seemed to have the set under control at 17-11 only to find themselves behind at 21-22 it could have turned ugly... but it didn't
MN hit .158 in the first two sets MN hit .324 in the last two sets. I think Shaff's set location was a big piece of this
glass 1/2 empty MN seemed to pass better, but they lost the 'terminal serve' piece of the triangle: NW's service aces and MN's services errors = 18 MN's service aces and NW's service errors = 15 A couple of NW SEs came at critical points...lucky for MN
what is with all of the off tempo opponent free balls hitting the floor? why are so many hard driven balls by the opponents heading OOBs get touched?
Didn't Shaff set TayMo one year? Why can't we get a floor denting kill from a MB?

Didn't Shaff set TayMo one year? Why can't we get a floor denting kill from a MB? I don't remember for sure TayMo, but I truly believe our middle production was why Regan Pittman didn't come back for her last year.

No Shaff started in the Spring 2021 Covid season, TayMo was done in 2019.
I remember the tragic inability to set a first team AA in Pittman that year.

This was a nice road win for the Gophers. Hopefully they can keep building momentum. The lack of middle production is concerning. They won't get very far in the tournament unless that improves. I thought Northwestern played tough. Their setter is deceptive. I was hoping to see Ellie Husemann get some playing time. It was nice to see Pedro again.
