Will this be a case where the MOP is from the team that doesn't win the final? Newton has a good stat line overall for UConn but Edey still has 13 more points as of right now. Newton won it. A losing team player has only been MOP once since 1966 (Olajuwon in 1983). Interesting fact, thanks for the history.
Considering Newton had 5 points in UConn's E8 win over Illinois (tiny - and all of those were free throws as he went 0-6 from the field), and 12 points in the F4 win over Alabama (not bad but not spectacular)...I do think they could have gone with Edey, who's worst tournament game was 20 points against NCST in the F4 (and he still shot over 64% in that game).

UConn asserting itself a little late. They are so good but no real star in the team. Yeah, they have two projected lottery picks (Clingan and Castle) and a consensus first-team All-American (Newton), plus two other rock solid starters (Karaban and Spencer) and a couple guys off the bench that provide valuable minutes (Johnson and Diarra). It's so hard to shut all of that down, especially when UConn is an elite defensive team in addition to having the most efficient offense in the country. They were so impressive this season.

They definitely have elite players, and they way they run that continuous motion offense the ball isn’t designed to go through one person. In the Alabama game Castle had 21 and Newton had 12. They just keep moving the ball until someone has a shot almost like musical chairs. Not a UConn fan but I do appreciate a team running an offense like that vs the standard 2 man pick and roll with 3 other players standing at the 3 point line you see now.

I went to bed with a few minutes left but Purdue only got off 2 more 3 pointers. Not sure what is more impressive, holding a team this day and age to one 3 pointer or seven 3 point attempts in a NC game.

Very late in the game, Edey got a wide-open dunk (at least 10 of his points were in garbage time), and one of the announcers (Raftery or Hill) noted that UConn was still taking away the three. Not only are they extremely skilled, but they are so disciplined and well coached.

I hadn't watched much of Purdue prior to the national championship game, so I was taken aback at how much Edey gets away with when he's in the post. He committed at least three or four really obvious offensive fouls that weren't called. Now I understand why so many were rooting against Purdue.

Edey gets fouled a lot as every Purdue fan would counter.
However, he also commits a lot of fouls (primarily when he is on offense or rebounding) that are either not called or they are inexplicably called as fouls on the other team. He should have faced much more foul trouble than he did the last 2 seasons.
Hate when guys just turnover the ball like this:

Like if the other team is fouling him, by all means, call it. Just make sure that he's also called when he does it (I didn't even mention the over-the-back fouls on rebounding that you alluded to).

He also singlehandedly attempted more FTs than combined opponents against Creighton this season. Creighton put teams on the FT line the fewest times per game afaik but still crazy stat.

It is kinda funny that Arkansas is in the top 20 way-too-early national title odds with no known returning or incoming players. I'm sure things will change quickly on that front between the Kentucky recruits and portal adds for Calipari but still.
