I know it’s kind of silly, but not a single mention of this match on the B1G instagram really bothers me. You see every other team on there consistently set by set.

Absolute gut punch for the Hoosiers and a critical win for the Gophers. Tournament hopes in much better shape now for Minnesota.

Looking at the stats, MN was outplayed in every aspect of the game, but we somehow came up with the win. Whew.
Our block stepped it up in the 5th and that seemed to be the game changer.
I missed the first set so didn't get to see why Hanson went in for Wurcherer. Was she getting blocked or passing woes? Glad to see Hanson get a shot and she delivered a solid performance.

The block was there and she already was hitting .000. However, it did take Hanson time to warm up, but she kept getting better as the match went on. Hell of a performance and GREAT ATTITUDE!

I don't think Wookie was playing that poorly. She had a pair of kills, one off a block and down, and a second that landed deep in the donut. after a HE the score was knotted at 6-6 Wookie receive a set that was not killable followed by one that she hit no hands that sailed long After a couple of sideout The IN setter Haworth went on a service run after a tie at 7-7 MN called timeout at 7-11 On the next point a so so pass and reasonable OOS set to Wookie ended with a hard drive that missed wide (but not by much) 7-12 I didn't read the Hanson sub as a rejection Wookie's play as much as a break in the tempo for Haworth. No matter though as Haworth kept serving until Shaff got a sideout on 2 to make it 8-14 I'd say you were quite fortunate to have missed set 1. Hanson's first attack was blocked. She had other touches in the set and got a kill very late. For whatever reason, Hansen remained in the game to start set 2 where she had 6K, 4HEs and a SE Most amazing stat: Of Minnesota's 15 points in the 5th set: only 4 kills 4 4 19 .000 5 of the match's 11 blocks IN had 3 SEs, 2HEs Hanson had an ace on a let service that trickled over It's more than fair to say MN escaped with a win

The Spanish sophomore, Candela Alonso-Corcelles, is another in a long line of OHs that plays like an AA vs MN.
We got better limiting her as the match went on
set kills HEs blkd 1 8 2 2 5 2 3 6 0 4 1 2 5 4 3 1 The only times we blocked her was at 12-11 and on match point!

Just looked at the box score and you're right, Indiana did better in about every statistical category. It's amazing MN won hitting .000 in the 5th set. I'll give MN credit for battling on the road and finding a way to win a close one.

Was it Grote or Shaff against her? I saw on live stats that Crowl came in for a bit. Not sure if she subbed in for Grote or not. But either way, it is EVERY match they can’t figure out how to stop at least one hitter. Have to give credit to Haworth though. MN doesn’t know how to stop an offensive setter, although, they did not let Haworth get double-digit kills.

At 11-12 it was Grote & Phoebe On match point Grote & Davis On a small screen hard to see
If/when it gets to YouTube and slower than real time …
From my perspective, v a v, huge outputs by an OH, you have to commit block AND consider focus on touches not ‘roofs’
In Purdue’s case the dangerous opponent was Colvin IF a perfect pass. Otherwise MB on OH and quickly.
Both Anderson and Haworth were very skilled in their distribution And why they kept serving Maddie & not seams to reduce in system plays by Purdue may have been a significant factor in the loss

Once Hanson replaced Wucherer in the lineup, it required some shifting with other subs.
Hanson: was Wucherer’s serving sub —> played front row in Wucherer’s place Z: was DS for Grote in right back —> DS for Hanson in middle back McGhie: was serving sub for Davis —> DS for Grote
That left a vacancy in the usual serving sub for Davis which has sometimes been Z and more recently McGhie. Keegan tried Gray as serving sub and I think she missed two in the net. That’s when he started using Crowl as the serving sub. Late in the long second set, Davis served so as not to waste subs. McGhie was in and Keegan wanted to make sure he still had a sub so she wouldn’t rotate into the front row. I thought that was great game management. And Davis got two good serves in with no errors! First time serving all season I think?
