Grand View beats Missouri Valley in 4 and William Penn beats Park in 5, effectively ending the season for Valley and Park.
I think both Grand View and William Penn also wrapped up a birth to the national tournament with the win. I do see one scenario that could keep the loser of Saturday’s championship match out, but I don’t see that happening. If Menlo were to win the GSAC championship they would take the auto bid and I don’t see how the committee would not give the three at large bids to (A) Masters- currently ranked #1 with only one NAIA loss and head to head win over Grand Biew (B) Vanguard- currently ranked #2 with only two losses (to #1 and #2) and defending national champion (C) OUAZ- currently ranked #3 with a win over Vanguard and head to head over William Penn.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? Completely agree that Grand View and William Penn are likely playing for seeding in finals. I think winner is 3 seed and loser likely at 5. The Menlo scenario would make things really interesting. With primary criteria for selection committee things could be very close between OUAZ and GV/WP.

GSAC conference awards have been announced. gsacsports.org/news/2024/4/18/2024-gsac-mens-volleyball-all-conference-team.aspxPOY- Patrick Paragas- The Master's Freshman of the Year- Preston Schmidt- The Master's (best Libero in the nation IMO) Coach- Jared Goldberg- The Master's Huge surprise to me that Will Anderson did not win the Player of the Year and I think he should be the hands down favorite to win it nationally. I did find it a little odd that all 7 of the Master's starters made the 14 player all conference team (half the selections and more than teams nationally ranked #2, #3 and #6 combined). It is not like Masters plays in an easy conference with #2 Vanguard (2 players), #3 OUAZ (3 players) and #6 Menlo (1 player) and they are the only team with good players to choose from.

Huge surprise to me that Will Anderson did not win the Player of the Year and I think he should be the hands down favorite to win it nationally. I agree with you, but I don’t think that’s even possible. From what I know, the player of the year can’t be someone who wasn’t a conference player of the year. Kind of like the national ratings, where a team can’t be above another team from their conference if the conference rated them lower. So with that, I think Paragas is the front runner for player of the year.

Initially I agreed with the thought that entire Master team is listed and few others from other top teams. Looked more and I’m not sure who would have been left out? Menlo setter? Blake Music from OUAZ? Don’t think anyone else from Vanguard would make sense either. I do think Will Anderson deserves to be player of the year within GSAC and maybe national. Seems like it will be between Krause from William Penn and Paragas from Masters for national player of the year.

Compare that to the Masters that have a much more well rounded team that every starter made the all conference team. I think the same can be said for OUAZ to be ranked #3 with only 3 all conference selections. Reminder, the GSAC only awards 14 players and doesn’t have 1st, 2nd and Honorable Mention like some of the other conferences, so it is harder to make the list and many very deserving players get left out, and not saying the players selected aren’t deserving,as they all are. I just find it very strange the distribution of players so heavily from one team when there are so many good teams in the conference (4 if the top 6) and totally works against the notion that someone on Master should have been POY

The NAIA does "Champion of Character" awards for one player from each team in every conference. The Champion of Character for Cornerstone is a freshman named Josiah Reif. Reif is significant because late in the season he was found to have a cancerous tumor on his lung. He had been getting a fair bit of playing time as a freshman, but from what I understand, he started having some breathing problems, which lead to the tests that revealed the growth. The growth had gotten so big, he wasn't able to travel home to California for treatment. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy in Michigan and, from I've heard, is doing very well. He may be able to go back home to California to complete his treatment very soon. I hope everyone can say a little prayer for him to get better, recover, and be back on the court for Cornerstone next year.

with all the player of the year talk if you have to be player of the year in your conference to win national I would bet on dapre Rodgers, just won player of the year for cal pac, broke a few attacking records this year and no one really seems to care about the fact the team is suffering. If not him then maybe Krausse will win a second time if he wins in the heart, but I have a hard time believing they will give it to setter in paragas

If not him then maybe Krausse will win a second time if he wins in the heart, but I have a hard time believing they will give it to setter in paragas I don’t think it is even close to who should win Player of the Year if we are looking at just Opposite and Outside Hitters. Here is a list of some of the top hitters. Most of them won their conference player of the year or attacker of the year award, but there are a few other of the top players listed. I know there are many other stats out there but I value hitting percentage and doing it on high volume when looking at a PIN hitter. There are a lot of players with a lot of kills but if you are NOT efficient, how much are you really helping your team win? Dapre Rodgers- Hitting %- .265, Kills/set- 3.93 Will Anderson- Hitting %- .386, Kills/set-4.24 Landon Krause- Hitting %- .323, kills/set- 3.56 Joao Friedrich- Hitting %- .316, Kills/set- 3.71 Ryan Gunn- Hitting %- .349, Kills/set- 4.01 Braden Van Groningen- Hitting %- .379, Kills/set- 2.60 Addah Nestor- Hitting %- .343, Kills/set- 3.77 Emery Outin- Hitting %- .333, Kills/set- 3.69 Eduardo Ayala- Hitting %- .333, Kills/set- 4.35 Akeel Oxley- Hitting %- .300, Kills/set- 4.07 Rodolfo Biegelmeyer- Hitting %- .346, Kills/set- 3.59 Gabriel Pizza- Hitting %- .258, Kills/set- 3.81 Bayron Valdez- Hitting %- .340, Kills/set- 3.35 I don’t see how any of these hitters other than Ryan Gunn from Georgetown or Will Anderson from Vanguard could even be in the conversation based on the stats. Even between those two it is not close. In 2022, the NAIA awarded POY to Francisco Arredondo from Grand View and the AVCA awarded POY to Landon Krause of William Penn (hitting .386 with 3.6 kills/set). Arredondo won the Heart POY/Setter of the Year in 2022 and Krause won the Attacker of the year.

Compare that to the Masters that have a much more well rounded team that every starter made the all conference team. I think the same can be said for OUAZ to be ranked #3 with only 3 all conference selections. I just find it very strange the distribution of players so heavily from one team when there are so many good teams in the conference (4 if the top 6) and totally works against the notion that someone on Master should have been POY I'm brand new to this forum so I'm still learning about the league and the players, but I think I see things a bit differently regarding the POY.
First, I absolutely agree that Anderson has had a nice season as the Oppo for Vanguard. Put the ball in his hands and he aces from the service line and kills from the right side. Nearly unstoppable! He carried his team to wins against the top teams in the nation, especially early in the season.
Looks like most on this forum believe that the player of the year should be an attacker. I agree that the attackers are extremely important, and they certainly get the cheers and the glory on the kills, but they cannot do it alone. Unlike basketball where a player can take the ball from rebound to score without any teammate touching the ball, volleyball needs the team on almost every play. And the player who touches the ball on almost every point is the setter.
The setter takes the pass, and like the quarterback in football taking the snap, decides who and where to put the ball. The setter is involved in defense (blocks, digs), and of course setting (assists). They may also get points by serving and dumping (kills). When there's a bad pass, the setter has to "better" that pass to get a point. If certain teammates are not feeling it, they need to find the other teammates to step up. It's easier when the setter has a superstar who always performs well. Put the ball in the vicinity and it's a kill.
I think both Paragas from Masters and Meyer from OUAZ have proven to be great setters who have not just excelled in setting (assists), but also in other aspects of the game as a setter: serving (aces), defense (blocks & digs), kills. They have each come in new to their team, built the chemistry with their teammates, and navigated their team to one of the top three teams in the nation.
The POY in 2022 was a setter from Grand View, Francisco Arredondo, who lead his team to a national championship. Something to consider if either Masters or OUAZ wins the national championship.
