Can we just take a moment to acknowledge the absolute dominance of Minnesota over Iowa in this rivalry?! Iowa hasn’t won a match against Minnesota since 1995. Insane!! Won’t be long until the gophers make that streak last 30 years. Someone please list some equivalent dominance of one school over another rival school in one single sport (rival schools only). I’m only 27 so please inform me.

Remember the good old days when the Gophers said things like this about Maryland….Rutgers……lol holms, before this year the Gophers had never lost to Maryland and hadn’t lost to Rutgers since 1983. Adding Iowa to the list this season..

It's hard to glean too much from the match because it was against Iowa.
However, I thought Shaffmaster made a lot of good choices and set some nice balls. The slide! If Minatee can hit that shot regularly then she's going to need to be in the starting lineup. Landfair had a really good swing from the back row, why don't we see more of that? It was a well deployed weapon last year. I know TL had issues with jumping over the line earlier this year but that was in September.
That was the ZP that everyone was expecting, she looked great!
Sore spot was MW still making double the amount of errors as what we need from her.

There have been a few 5 five setters over the streak years. The 2013 Gopher team went down 2-0 to Iowa and had to claw back, and that was a solid Sweet 16 team with All Americans.

I think (and hope) we saw a glimpse in this match of what we can look forward to next season... Back row attacks, slides, Wuchs and TayLa being a threat around the court, better middle connection and defensive connection with Z etc. Give this team some more practice with each other and time with these coaches in the off season to perfect these things and they'll be back to the MN team we know they can be. It's there you guys! Just have to fine tune it and get it consistent...

1. Some good D from Zeynep 2. Shaff spreading the wealth (and locating in spots that can be hit). Brava. 3. Landfair should hit more pipe 4. Too many service errors IMO 5. Grote amazing hitting 5. Middles 9-2-16 for .438 hitting so that's nice 6. If Minatee can quickly become a more disciplined blocker she'll boot Awoleye to the bench in a heartbeat with that nice slide (although I wish Arica blocked as well as Phoebe as well because Arica can actually put a ball away sometimes). 7. Wucherer still very erratic, but optimistic that she's working out the kinks and developing her aresenal
Next two matches are must-wins. If they do, I think we make the tourney.

Fairly typical set for the Hawks. Play solid for a bit, struggle in serve receive & give up 5-8 points in a row. That also defines Minnesota's season to a tee.

Gophers take set two with an ace from Z!!! 25-20. Grote had been serving until the last 2 serves when Z served. I think Grote was serving well, so maybe Cook just wanted to give Z a couple of chances at the line? Grote had 3 SE, so she was definitely not serving well.

If Z can become a more reliable player in Zone 1, it should help Shaff focus more on her offensive game. Granted, it was Iowa we played last night, but maybe just maybe there was a slight indication leaning to that.
Z really looked the most comfortable she has all season. Other players were not stepping in front of her...they were letting her play D.
This team didn't collapse like they have, when falling behind. They rallied and just played a full "team" game of volleyball.
I also feel our coaches have prepared a better "game plan" second time around on our Big opponents.

Z had an attack attempt two weeks ago at (t)OSU, so now she is hitting 0.500 for the season!
