Okay. Someone catch me up. Cursty is not coaching here? Is someone new coming in? Also, I haven’t read a lot of talk about Jordan Byrd. What’s the latest on her? Have I missed anything else? No, Cursty is not coaching here any more. Yes, I'm sure someone new is coming in. Who? Dunno. When? Dunno. I'd love to see an alum, but it's more likely we'll see someone connected with US volleyball, since that's been the pattern. Jordyn Byrd has yet to explode into the lineup the way she does off the floor. From what I've seen, she's mostly been on the outside, with Rutherford and Kahahawai as the opposites. Texas has been running a bunch of 6-2, with Rutherford/Carlson switching off with Kahahawai/Swindle. Doesn't mean we'll run it in the fall, but it's a data point we might. Bunton is healthy. In fact, everyone seems healthy other than Lauenstein. Speculation this will be a redshirt year for her with last year not counting against her eligibility because of her pregnancy. Swindle has a broken nose, but she's been playing with a mask on. The team looks good. There's a long way to go until the fall season and the NCAA tournament at the end of it. They look like they're having a blast together in Europe. Why hire an alum? Haley Eckerman is the only alum that comes to mind with several years of college coaching experience, but she is now a head coach and probably doubtful she wants to give it up to be the #3 assistant on our staff. Doubtful it would be a smart move to hire an alum with no coaching experience. I'm probably forgetting someone obvious, but our alum hires in any sport have typically not turned out to be outstanding. Don't need to put a restriction like that on the list of candidates.

Since when did my wish become a restriction for Elliott? I had no idea my posts conveyed such compulsive power. With great power comes great responsibility, I guess. David Hunt left a more prestigious head coaching job than Kent State to be an assistant at Texas. Tonya Johnson left Georgia Tech. The job would likely have to pay more than it seemed to for Cursty, but it’s not an impossible task. While I’m rooting hard for Eckerman to be ultra successful at Kent State, she’s not setting the world on fire currently. Why does the third assistant have to have coaching experience anyway? Jessica Brennan didn’t have coaching experience. Jordan Larson didn’t have coaching experience. Taking a look around at prominent programs - plenty of third assistants are being brought on with no coaching experience. Sure, it would be a plus. But it doesn’t have to be a requirement. There are plenty of alum hires that have been quality assistants. Not too many alums have been great head coaches, but we’re talking about the third assistant on staff, not a head coach. Again, my guess is they’ll have some kind of US Volleyball pedigree, because Elliott values that highly. But personally I’d love to have an alum on staff, even if it’s not something you value all that much.

"Located in the heart of the “Live Music Capital of the World,” the SEC Celebration will feature star-studded concerts on the Tower Stage, including a headlining performance at 9 p.m. by a to-be-announced global superstar. Live music will kick off at 5:30 p.m."
i wonder who this global superstar might be. i bet taylor swift is going to cancel her tour stop in dublin and come perform at UT

texassports.com/news/2024/5/29/ut-and-texas-athletics-to-host-all-day-sec-celebration-on-june-30.aspx"In addition to activities at the UT Tower, Main Mall and 21st Street, fans can experience the Forty Acres with free activities presented by University museums and centers — including the LBJ Presidential Library, Texas Science & Natural History Museum and Blanton Museum of Art — from 1 to 5 p.m." remember that the natural history museum used to be the Texas memorial museum and was closed in march 2022 for a massive renovation. it reopened in september 2023

The U21 team? Like players from the same cohort that a bunch of US high schoolers beat at U19 worlds last summer? And Texas lost? technically U22 (not that it matters) and some of those players were there. there were also professional players there from the U21/22 age group. It's hard to say without knowing what lineups there were (even then I wouldnt put any stock into a foreign trip match lol). But Purdue tied 3-3, Penn State was swept. I think they played Minnesota.
