Oh nothing I just want her to get through the season and I foresee a lot of swings in her future. Swings for Emma?! You must mean Madi I meant Madi… what did I say? Edit: I just realized I quoted the absolute wrong thing. I wanted to reference Madi’s 6 kps. Oops

I think there’s a good chance that both of our outsides play 6 ro. Nothing I have seen of Reese convinces me that she’s better in the back row than Wenaas. I mean, Wenaas has played 4 seasons of college volleyball as a starter. At least 2 of those at Minnesota consisted of her playing all 6 rotations, right? Emerick would have to be really good as a true freshman to be better with her serve receive and defense to beat her out. I’m with you. It’s a bit strange to me to see posts acting as if Wenaas capably playing 6 rotations and hitting out of the back row is some kind of marvel. She did it regularly at Minnesota. Heck, she did it in the spring last year. Honestly my main issue with Wenaas since she was recruited out of the portal and even through the tournament is that she’s not a spectacular hitting specialist at a program where we’ve been spoiled with otherworldly athletes who regularly take over matches, even as the 2nd OH. That’s just not who she is. But when you have Skinner on the floor for 6 rotations, who cares? Just set the bic every time you get the chance, or watch Skinner go over the block when she’s on the front row. It’s not actually THAT easy…but it’s pretty close. Outside of the SMU and Nebraska tournament matches, her hitting percentages were either not good (Stanford) or downright awful (A&M, Tennessee, Wisconsin). But Texas won anyway. What I’m not expecting is some kind of renaissance from her. She’s not a scoring machine. She’s a high effort, competent serve receive back row player with a ton of mental fortitude who is obviously a great teammate in the locker room. Elliott puts a great deal of trust in her. I will, too. I find her play tough to root for at times, but that’s as much on me as it is anything else. I’m just used to superwomen being lined up out there. Well, we have one in Skinner who is always out there. Without the kind of high caliber back row players we’ve been bringing in through the portal lately (O’Brien, Akana, Fleck, Barnes) and with Emmerick so far not looking like she’ll have the freshman impact Halter did, I’m assuming Wenaas will be back there instead. I look forward to seeing what she can contribute there. It certainly doesn’t make me nervous. She’s been competent in that role in the past with extensive usage. Also, I constantly remind myself she made what I consider the signature play of the championship match with that solo block of Beason. Just an incredible bit of anticipation, savvy, and athleticism.

I love love all of this(especially the last bit from the Nebraska game.) Maybe I’m more of an optimist than you slxpress lol but what I’m hoping is that she takes the confidence from winning the natty/the competition right on her tail and that she turns the dial up another gear. I’m hoping it’s a slow burn and we will reap the rewards come fall. I don’t see why she can’t have a first team all American season. I’m speaking it into existence lol and many called me crazy for predicting Texas V Nebraska at the finals 😬

TWO solo blocks on Beason. And one on Jackson, straight down roof and Bella was nowhere near.

I've been meaning to post these comments from the two TV analysts during the last set of our match against Nebraska when Wenaas got that solo block on Beason:
"Jenna Wenaas is a high-level blocker on that left side. Even though she was working through some offensive troubles early in the season, this is one of her best skills."
"Jerritt Elliott cannot say enough good things about Jenna Wenaas. She has put in the work every day. Extra reps in the gym. Her teammates have seen that work. And, it is showing up in the tournament."
It will take a really good all-around skill set from one of our other pin hitters to take Wenaas' starting OH spot.

Okay. Someone catch me up.
Cursty is not coaching here? Is someone new coming in?
Also, I haven’t read a lot of talk about Jordan Byrd. What’s the latest on her?
Have I missed anything else?

Okay. Someone catch me up. Cursty is not coaching here? Is someone new coming in? Also, I haven’t read a lot of talk about Jordan Byrd. What’s the latest on her? Have I missed anything else? No, Cursty is not coaching here any more. Yes, I'm sure someone new is coming in. Who? Dunno. When? Dunno. I'd love to see an alum, but it's more likely we'll see someone connected with US volleyball, since that's been the pattern. Jordyn Byrd has yet to explode into the lineup the way she does off the floor. From what I've seen, she's mostly been on the outside, with Rutherford and Kahahawai as the opposites. Texas has been running a bunch of 6-2, with Rutherford/Carlson switching off with Kahahawai/Swindle. Doesn't mean we'll run it in the fall, but it's a data point we might. Bunton is healthy. In fact, everyone seems healthy other than Lauenstein. Speculation this will be a redshirt year for her with last year not counting against her eligibility because of her pregnancy. Swindle has a broken nose, but she's been playing with a mask on. The team looks good. There's a long way to go until the fall season and the NCAA tournament at the end of it. They look like they're having a blast together in Europe.
