Are they allowed to do that? As I understand it, if the SEC Network doesn't exercise it's rights to televise a UT sporting event, LHN may do so. My understanding is that LHN is no longer in the business of televising live events. It is only showing replays of events in the LHN archives.

My understanding is that LHN is no longer in the business of televising live events. It is only showing replays of events in the LHN archives. They will be showing live press conferences and stat casts (and rumor has it pre- and post- football game shows). If you're right and they won't be televising any live competitions, that sucks. The coverage of non-revenue sports was one of the best things about the original LHN.

My problem with that post is that it’s basically making the argument that a priority for the college game should be preparing players for international play, which I don’t agree with. There’s also a subtext that the USA is at a disadvantage because they play with way more substitutions than international rules allow. And yet they just won the silver after winning the gold in Tokyo. Italy pretty much beat everyone they faced like a rented mule in these games. They also have the healthiest and most robust professional league in the world. To me the healthiest outlook is to focus on how well the USA team performed, tip our cap to Italy for having the best team by far and earning their gold medal, and understand that other countries place a greater priority on the professional ranks in some sports than the USA - volleyball being one of them. I’ll also say that the most exciting part of a volleyball match for me are long rallies. There are many advantages to more substitutions - more participation from more players, more opportunities for shorter players, the ability to implement different systems that wouldn’t be available with fewer substitutions. There are plenty of disadvantages, too, namely the lessened focus on developing 6 rotation players, but for me the trade off is well worth it. Given the context, it almost feels like Pettit is arguing we should reduce the number of substitutions in college so we have a better chance at winning the gold medal, which feels pretty ludicrous. We should implement the rule set that makes the most sense for women’s collegiate volleyball. To me there’s no question the 15 substitution rule is better for growing the game at the collegiate level, therefore it shouldn’t be changed.
