Texas, and each of the SEC schools, is going to be paid a king's ransom in TV contract money now that Texas and ou have been added. i am willing to bet a fish sandwich from the restaurant of your choosing that money played a large role in the decision By large role you mean what? It was at best third on the priority list. Money played a role in terms of future conference relevance, but monetarily Texas was going to be making money hand over fist regardless of conference affiliation. They’re leaving an extra $20 million per year on the table simply for giving up LHN before the contract expires. Not to mention they likely could have extorted even more from the Big 12 in their new contract for binding assurances to stay. It’s not the end all be all you’re making it out to be. If you’re convinced of it there’s nothing I’m going to say to change your mind, but it doesn’t make it any more true. What makes a huge difference is all the money going to the rest of the SEC schools, plus their giant football stadiums and big crowds. Texas is now in a conference with relatively rich athletic department peers, so the overall goals and vision for the future of college athletics is way more aligned. Conference riches is playing a huge role there. Money was the main factor, Texas is trying to keep up with the SEC payouts just as it was when the SWC died. It's not about their payout this year. it's about what the payouts are going to be going forward. The SEC schools might be making 100 million dollars by the end of the decade. These were projections from 2022: It was about money and future revenue. That 50+ million dollar delta is exactly why this happened. Texas was never going to allow that. When the LHN was created that extra money narrowed the deficit enoughbetween the SEC and Big XII to make Big XII membership still palatable. But the gap is just too wide now to stay. You can cite Keven Eltife's unique vision all you want, but this is the first thing he saw. Also, the back room negotiations that made this happen with ESPN smoothed pretty much everything over for Texas. ESPN bought out the LHN contract to make this happen when it did. They're not losing much money at all in the short term and gaining an extra 50 million a year in the long term. That's a massive upgrade and is absolutely why this happened. It's the same for OU.

Money drives everything. A&M didn't decide to leave the Big 12 until AFTER they comprehended that Texas would be earning $15 million a year from LHN; that would be an amount A&M would not be able to earn or overcome. They would have been at a huge financial disadvantage against Texas year after year as long as they remained in the Big 12; that is why they left. They could have left the Big 12 way before the LHN became a reality; there was no granting of rights; they were free to leave to "create their own identity" for years prior to the idea of LHN. Earning way less money than Texas is why they left the Big 12; and it was the correct financial decision for them. Ten years later and they have not created any new identity that I've noticed; they are the same athletic program they have always been but richer than if they had remained in the Big 12.

I spy three practice courts in Gregory. Hmmm, but you have that nifty deluxe dual practice court buried deep inside the stadium?
But we have SO many players now, we need 3 courts for practice!
I keep forgetting the court is white now 🤣 it’s like a surprise every time I see a pic! I can’t wait till Saturday 🤘🏼

What part of this discussion is “common sense”? To the general public it was mostly about money. All the reports talked about “how much money” the change of conference will make. So “common sense” it would appear is that a major reason is money$$$. Of course other factors for any school making the switch are important but it is mostly “money” . Whether it is now many, next year money or future potential it is money. The politics of getting the move done is irrelevant to previous posters point. Show me the money the major reason. Winning equals more money: a conference winning the most championships, equals most money. There’s no link for common sense for sure!!! The common sense part is how secret the deliberations were. No one knew anything - including the Aggies - until the deal was pretty much done. LOL You could write a book (which you almost did) and you still have your head in the sand if you think the primary reason wasn't money.

Currently watching the Baylor matches and it’s so interesting to watch how different Swindle and Carlson are as setters when they’re facing one another. Both so effective but in vastly different ways. Carlson brings such a smoothness to the court, she is quick to the ball and deploys sets low with tempo. A couples times it was too quick or just mistimed by the hitter, and those misconnections typically produced easy tips that Texas picked up or hitting errors. While Swindle provides a very valuable block and offensive ability to go with the pretty solid grasp she had on running an offense. Although she’s not slow, she doesn’t glide as gracefully around the court as Carlson. However, part of that could be due to her playing through injury. Regardless, we are so lucky to have both at Texas.
