I think Adhu realized quickly that we weren’t benching Molly Phillips any time soon on the right side and was like “why would I be a backup for free in the US when I can be a backup in my home country for $$” lol Reports out of Italy in the fall of 2020 were speculating that she was going to stay in Italy and not enroll at Texas in the spring so she was already strongly considering turning pro before she came to Texas. Jerritt warned us earlier, with Katerina, "Well, those European players.....they're used to rolling out of bed around noon and then heading to practice. It takes them a while to get used to the schedule that the US players train to."
I think, with no proof, that Mulual made him rethink recruiting the occasional European player. Which is too bad because our guides in Europe were twin sisters who played at US colleges (both transferred once) and they loved their US college playing experience. In Europe it's high school -> direct -> pros (or semi-pros) and nothing in between for those who know they need a little more development time with their skills and also aren't in rush to work for a living, yet.

It seems to be obvious that Katerina followed by Mulual made him rethink recruiting European players or at least the ones that are also heavily considering turning pro instead. Even if that wasn't the reason, I'm glad he hasn't recruited any more since. European players do not grow up playing highly competitive sports in school at any educational level. So our college system of being a student and athlete is likely something they aren't used to seeing. I suspect the ones that come from Europe to college in the US and do well (and finish school) are ones that are highly motivated to get a college degree.

side note
it's refreshing to NOT hear people screaming "double" on every set

side note it's refreshing to NOT hear people screaming "double" on every set I noticed (I think during set 2) Houston's setter backset an ugly contact that would have been blown dead last year, but this year it just made the hitter readjust and send a roll shot over. We picked it up and the rally got to continue, and Reagan got a kill. It's just a better sports experience and gives the players more opportunities to play and earn the point

Melanie and Adhu could’ve developed into such crazy players for us. just kinda unlucky with Adhu and I still wonder what the convo was between Parra and JE because by all accounts, Parra should’ve been starting for us last season parra had limited playing time her 3 years there…she was playing DS then on the bench her final year there when it was clear she shoulda played alot more hence why she left…and ppl said Wennas was the better option anyways lol

The facts are, unemotionally, most starting outsides at most universities would sit behind a combo of Eggleston/fields and Eggleston/Skinner. She had the opportunity to compete with Wenaas, but chose a different path, and I don’t recall a single Texas fan who wasn’t supportive of that choice. You can say anything you want about Wenaas, but she played her part in the championship run, just like Parra did to get her ring, while Parra and her crew were enjoying Christmas break back in Fort Worth. I can’t speak for everyone, but most fans are excited for what Parra is doing at TCU and actively rooting for them. Not everything is a vs., she might have beat out Wenaas, she might not have, but the results are still hanging on the banner in Gregory regardless. If Parra and the horned frogs make it far enough for her to snatch npoty like her countrywoman did, I will cheer her on. As I believe most Texas posters will.

I am confident Parra would have loved to have stayed at Texas and had a career like Logan/Madi but like someone mentioned above there are A LOT of good players that are sitting on benches that would start at other schools. If she would have stayed would she have beat out Wenaas? Thats up for debate, but at this point its all just speculation. She obviously has dreams of going pro and how her first 3 years went at Texas she just wasn’t getting the reps to be able to develop for the next level. As a fan of volleyball, it is so refreshing to see someone of that caliber go to another school and elevate the standard, it only makes the game better.

I challenge you to find a post which says that. However not a lot of us (or JE) would have started her over Logan or Madi. Unfortunately for Mel, that's the depth of talent there was on the 2022 team. Then she put herself into the Portal almost immediately after the National Championship match (IIRC about 3 days afterwards) before there was any inkling of Wenaas. She took herself out of contention for 2023. These are facts, so take your revisionist history elsewhere.
