I need to know how good do you think Reagan Rutherford is? Like what’s her peak is she gonna be inconsistent like wennas for most of the year or can she be a terminator in heavy situations. What role did she play for Kentucky Rutherford is amazing and we’re extremely fortunate to have her. She is a devastating terminator. For sure one of the best right sides in the country. On most teams she would be the featured attacker. Nothing against Wenaas, but there’s no comparison in terms of what Rutherford did at Kentucky and what Wenaas did at Minnesota. It won’t take long for you to see it. She leaps out of the gym, has a whip for an arm, and she’s left handed, which is an asset for a right pin. I think she averaged close to 3.5 kills per set last year. She’s been an All American the last two years, and a first team SEC player the last 3 years. She’s tremendous. Figured out who she was vs. Fingall?

And a lot of fun along the way, regardless of one final match (For the record, sixexpress trolled the Nebraska thread first, I'm simply returning the favor. We enjoy poking fun).

Cross-posting from the recruiting thread - Y'all, congratulate me. I HAVE MADE IT INTO THE CHAIRBACK SECTION!!!!!! Stupidly, there were two open chairback seats and the system wouldn't let me buy only one. If anyone is interested in buying the second seat from me, please DM. For reference, it is Section 31, Row 3, Seat 3. The season ticket price was $175. Is this the normal season ticket price? That seems like an awesome deal

Does she block well? I think Molly really saved us with her and asjias block can she shut down great attackers ? I don’t think she’s going to be as good a blocker as Phillips. It’s tough to compare with a 6’5 blocker at 6’1. But she did average .9 blocks per set last year, which is really good for a pin. I don’t think it’s going to be a weakness. I think - well, I KNOW - we’re going to miss having O’Neal and Bergmark. Nothing against Singletary/Ames and Bunton if she plays significantly but there’s simply no way they’re going to equal the presence of 6 year veteran and national team participant O’Neal. So I’d say just as much as the loss of Phillips we’re going to miss the presence of our veteran MBs. Also, if Carlson wins the starting setter position there’s no question she’s going to be more of a liability on the front row than Swindle would be. At the same time, the most effective block is a successful attack, so there’s no return to even have to block. Which means if we’re running a more effective offense with Rutherford, the lesser blocking could be less of a factor. The short answer though is I don’t consider her blocking a weakness.

That seems like an awesome deal They have the prices listed in the seating diagram and that is the normal chairback price. The only tier higher is courtside for $200. Compared to the prices for some of the other sports, volleyball is a steal of a deal.

I thought I was pretty light hearted. A Nebraska fan said too bad the team didn’t win the national championship for the perfect ending, and I averred it was the perfect ending from my perspective.

Could we see a double sub this season? If Swindle wins out the starting setter spot, I could see Swindle/Rutherford being double subbed with Carlson/Kahahawai (or Byrd/Tomkinson). I just don’t see Carlson sitting on the bench for an entire season, but I also don’t see Swindle not being used for her blocking & offense.

There is zero chance in my mind that either Carlson or Swindke sit on the bench the entire season. At a minimum someone will be utilized as much as Ewert was two years ago, but I think it will actually be quite a bit more than that. We’ll just have to see how it unfolds.

Is there even 6-man beach for the 2028 Olympics? I can't keep up with all the new sports that are being added there's not 6-man in the olympics (it was a special 6-man tournament in manhattan beach)...just glad she having fun & liking beach now...playing pairs is drastically different & really difficult A note I haven't seen people mention: the 2 teams in last year's final were the 2 teams that had their entire indoor team play the beach season.

I have no empirical evidence, but do suspect that playing beach is great in terms of training floor defense. Not to mention absurd cut shots like Molly's beauty during the Natty

To me the fact these are the two schools dominating in recruiting from both the high school ranks and the portal had waaaaaay more to do with it. I feel confident Texas would have won that championship with or without the abbreviated beach season. I’ll point this out. That beach experience certainly didn’t help any at the start of the season. For me it was mostly a non factor. Helpful for sure, but not a defining advantage.

I’m petrified but also so excited to see our middle blockers have the test of Wisconsin right away, I am nervous about singletarys blocking but I think Ames will make up in what she lacks and vice versa. TURN ME UP

I’m petrified but also so excited to see our middle blockers have the test of Wisconsin right away, I am nervous about singletarys blocking but I think Ames will make up in what she lacks and vice versa. TURN ME UP The worst thing that happens is the team loses. I don’t think that’s so bad of an outcome. It will be a great test. I just don’t think anyone has a real solution for Maddie Skinner in all of college volleyball. And that’s to say nothing of the other pieces. But I feel like Skinner right now is as close to undefendable as it gets. I don’t mean she’s going to score at a 100% clip or anything. I’m just saying if you’re at a stage in the match where you need a point, there’s no other player I’d rather be setting to than Skinner. Also, don’t forget Wisconsin has some kinks to work out as well. They’ll have a new freshman setter, and Franklin is recovering from the high ankle sprain she suffered with the national team. And their outside hitting isn’t as terminal as I’m sure they’d like it to be opposite of Franklin. They had some issues receiving serve all year long that they overcame by being outstanding out of system, but it caught up with them in the semifinal match. I’d also say that Texas has other things to work on than just the middles. After two years of having 3 established littles in the backcourt it looks like there’s just two this year. Rutherford will need to establish herself. I feel confident she will, but Wisconsin will be her first real opportunity to do so. We’re replacing two excellent servers. I feel confident we’ll figure out the middle blocker position this year. I feel like it’s Singletary’s moment to shine, and she’s ready for it. Maybe not in the first match against Wisconsin, but it only gets easier from here. Literally.
