Anyone predicting any surprises in the starting lineup (not injury-related)? I recall in 2017 when Jerrit started Yaazie Bedhart-Ghani over returning All-American Opposite, Ebony Nwanebu to begin the season at Florida; that didn't last long. Not many other surprises I can recall in past season openers.
I do think Swindle would be the better blocking matchup at the net against very physical Wisconsin hitters. But, that might have to be sacrificed if she isn't doing the other things well enough early in the match. I would expect to see a lot of dumps by Swindle as I'm not sure Wisconsin's defense will be sharp this early in the season.
Winning on the road to start the season is not easy. I know our 2022 squad won convincingly at Ohio State to start that season; but that was such a veteran squad. Sunday's match will be a dog fight, IMO. Hard for me to predict a win without knowing if Reagan Rutherford will play. If she can't, we will need to find offensive production from someone else. Wisconsin is way more experienced at middle blocker than Texas. We will need several players to have success putting the ball down and scoring however necessary.

I just feel like, when in doubt, feed Skinner. I understand we need to develop other weapons, but I just think back to that A&M match in the tournament, where we looked off early on, and then just seemed to feed Skinner nearly every set and let her put things away.

Also, Wisconsin middles were slow closing the block and ineffective after the first set on the attack. I know they’re veterans and Texas has the two unseasoned middles, but the Badgers will need to improve there for sure.

We cannot be one dimensional against a quality team on the road. We'll already be feeding Skinner out of system pretty much every time she's in the front row. Our coaching staff is seasoned enough to know other players have to help carry the load offensively.

We cannot be one dimensional against a quality team on the road. We'll already be feeding Skinner out of system pretty much every time she's in the front row. Our coaching staff is seasoned enough to know other players have to help carry the load offensively. Skinner averaged over 5 kills a set in the championship match. The next closest was 3. The next closest to that was less than two, from the setter. I’ll take that ratio just fine. Volleyball is not like basketball where one player can dominate a game. But volleyball is a sport where 1 high level terminator surrounded by high level pieces can win it all. I do not think Skinner can be consistently stopped in the back row by any college team. I don’t think she’s quite as dominant out of system on the front row, but she’s still really good there, too. We need to be good in passing and transition to give her better opportunities, but if she’s given those opportunities I feel like she’ll dominate the match from a terminating perspective regardless of opponent.

Any thoughts on who the servers will be? Skinner, Swindle, Halter, Devin, Mari, Jenna. That could change after set 1. The last two years, Texas started set 1 of the first match with both OH playing 6 rotations but they didn’t finish the match playing 6 with 2.
