It also doesn’t help when Carlson seems more comfortable setting a low, quicker ball. At times the location just wasn’t there for some of the hitters

the setter position needs to go to whoever can activate Rutherford and if neither can do that then we need to put the best pin blocker over there and probably use Jenna as a DS for a better attacker. Madi’s bic has been completely ineffective so we need a strong attacking outside to spread the block or at least bail us out

secondary setters are pushing attackers too close to the net. seeing a spark from devin The secondary setters also need to stop stepping in front of the setters so much…

When you have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks. The old football saying.
JE you have to decide who your setter is and stick to it. One is good with outsides and one is good with middles. Decide.
Same with your OPP. You pull the OPP that helped win set 4 and put in the shorter OPP in set 5? You're the boss, but be consistent so they know who they're playing next to.
Serve receive is the old Texas serve receive/bad passing. And Minny dug the heck out of everything we'd normally kill - so whatcha going to do?
Singletary suffering the first year starting MB blues, net violations. Ames, not very accurate and sometimes surprised the ball set for her. Not a good sign.
Wennas. Sigh. Tonight was bad Jenna.
And the Bic was silenced.
The only bright side was Halter.

I guess my issue is, is swindle even good with the outsides? sure she puts up a higher ball in system, but her out of system setting is atrocious. I thought her best sets tonight were shockingly to the middle (not that Carlson was much better… lol and obviously she isn’t half the blocker swindle is. she also can’t bail us out with dumps like swindle can)

I'm actually okay with this loss. Not great, but we know what we can improve on and honestly Minnesota earned this win especially after their loss yesterday and after we kicked their *ss in the fourth
We need to pick a setter, or a system. If we're going to go 5-2 or 6-2, they need to commit to it and not just pull one in haphazardly after a string of points.
Minnesota served super tough, but we need to pass better. And if we're going to pass it high, those secondary sets have to be better. High enough to let our hitters go to work but also a little off the net so they're not trapped.
I have otherworldly expectations for Skinner, and she didn't meet them. I thought Jenna did what she could, and passing better would've helped everyone. It was a solid match from Ayden I thought, but all three of our young middles are going to have to learn to score against good teams. It's fun to bounce against Texas State and A&M Corpus-Christi (no disrespect) but you've gotta learn to swing high and deep even when you're in tempo. Blocking they did okay but we had way too many weird balls waffle through our block especially next to Averi that her size isn't an excuse for. Picking a setter and blocking next to them constantly will help.
It'll take time, and I'm looking forward to the Indiana, Miami, and Stanford matchups to further evaluate our serve receive. They've got some good ones.
Halter is my SEC Libero of the Year already.

Madi’s bic has been completely ineffective so we need a strong attacking outside to spread the block or at least bail us out I don’t think against bigger, more physical teams Jenna provides enough positives to leave her out there as a front row option especially when Madi’s performance isn’t the best. I do agree that when Rutherford is hot she can take over a match, but I think JE needs to put his big boy pants on and make a decision. You could tell that Skinner was running out of gas towards the end and because no one was producing numbers to take the load off her shoulders it was inevitable we were going to lose.

I am choosing to only acknowledge set 4.
Ok but in all seriousness, we’ll be alright. Not a good performance tonight but we looked good at times too. It’s always better not to peak too early, and we definitely have not! Agree with others that the biggest question mark is setter, it’s like we have two good options but neither is better enough to really take control of the spot.

I’m not criticizing but I would like to know the thought process of going away from what worked so well in the 4th set 😢

There are lots of issues to work on, but to me, the biggest difference in the match was Minnesota had clean swings for kills far more often than Texas did. The setting discrepancy was very large.

That Binney sub needs to end like yesterday and Skinner needs to lock in. She didn’t look good whatsoever these first two days. this is how skinner started off the last 2 seasons @ texas...slow starts

hitting .062 in the 5th doesn't cut it When you can’t pass it’s tough. Minnesota served nails all night, Texas only did in the 4th.
