That’s pretty much what I figured. But if Binney is coming in as a serving substitute and de facto secondary setter when she is in there, why not Carlson?

I'm ok with the loss, it takes some pressure off of being #1 and undefeated, now everyone can move on and focus. It was a really great event. I hope we do this again, but NOT straight out of the gate. Maybe as the 2nd or 3rd week of the season
In order not to spiral out, I have to remind myself that we're just 1-1 and the one loss was to a Power 4 team and not to a G5 school.

So now that I've slept on it, here are my thoughts on last night's match: - Rumors of Lauenstein's redshirt are probably true. I can think of no other reason why JE would put in a recovering Devin in the 4th set instead, there was one longish rally and Devin was visibly breathing hard afterwards. the only thing I can think of is if Devin is considered first off the bench opposite and Whitney is first off the bench outside

Came on here to say what a great match! I know you all probably think you have lots to work on and improve, but Halter is so fun to watch and is so entertaining.
And as a complete outsider, I’m hoping that maybe, just maybe, Devin showed that JE should give her a shot to crack the starting lineup. She’s a difference maker. Good luck the rest of the season, Texas fans!

I agree on picking a setter and going with it, or running anoffense that uses both, be it a 5-2 or 6-2. Perhaps it’s a dumb question, but how good is Carlson in serve-receive and passing? LOL who knows, she herself might not know. It's probably been 10 years since she was in a passing pattern IIRC her senior year they ran a 6-2 and she played all the way around. Had over 300 digs for the season and they won State.

I watched last night. Honestly, I'm confused as to what needs to happen, other than more time, but I'll take a shot at it.
- As others have mentioned, I'd like stability in the setter position. I don't know know why one > the other necessarily, but I'm in favor of one or committing to a 6-2. But, I don't actually think this was the cause of the loss. - I'd like to see better bump setting when our setter doesn't get the second ball. Too often, these were traps or they were set over the net. I think OOS play, in general needs to be improved. Watching Franklin in both games do so well OOS was a revelation. - Better passing - duh. I'm more inclined to keep Jenna in the front (she really did well this weekend) but maybe sub for the back row. Her back row was not the problem, but I maybe want another little. If we're not really going to go to Jenna in the backrow, I'm not convinced we don't have a better passing stabilizer. - Figure out the serving sub. Binney was good previously, but you can't get 3 SEs when you're the serving sub. - Devin was a nice bright spot. Rutherford was a nice bright spot too. So maybe 6-2? (I will say I didn't realize how much shorter Rutherford was.)
But, I'm not tossing the harpoon. Other than just the sheer collapse in S5 (gotta hope our mentality is better), I'm not sure why all of this isn't worked out by December.
We have three-four new starters. It's going to happen!

^ I was super impressed with Minnesota's blocking, especially on Madi. While several swings I still think the ball could be higher, they got great touches on her. Part of that needs to be moving the bic around so she's not just coming straight at the block, which I imagine could be a wrinkle that we'll see later in the season like hornhouse said, heavy is the head that wears the crown. teams are gonna be coming for us, and for Madi especially. we're not new to it. Keegan Cook has been known to be a great blocking coach.

In the Greg no less

I’m ready for the girls to hopefully take out some frustration on Indiana. Although I do think Indiana will be able to score points with their crafty setter against our middles. However I don’t know that they’ll be able to replicate Minnesota’s defense and blocking, especially from their middles. Don’t underestimate Gary’s floor defense Big ole game of keep-away

None of us are million dollar coaches, but you have 2 practices and a rest day before Indiana. What do put your focus on over the next two days? We don’t have unlimited time to regroup, so what’s the 1,2,3?
