Why not name Swindle the setter, and have Carlson be the third little? Granted, that might be a crazy suggestion. But it’s a volleyball message board, so just the place to suggest such a thing. 😃

oddly enough the difference in setters could be benefits in a 6-2, granted I don’t think we would ever use it. pair Swindle with Devin, who has a wider hitting range, and have Jenna be the OH next to Swindle (would end up being Akana DSing two of those rotations) so they have two front row rotations together for Swindle to lay up those juicy high balls to Madi in transition front row. Mari would hypothetically be the middle next to Swindle (where Halter would be back row) so she’d be setting Ames 2/3 rotations. I think you could run some combo plays here too and have Devin come in on a middle route with Ames running a slide. pair Carlson with Rutherford since she’s used to having a higher tempo set, and have Madi be the outside next to her to try and create some more seams in the block with her tempo for Jenna front row. Ames would hypothetically be the middle next to Carlson (again, where Halter would be back row), leaving her setting Singletary in the front row for 2 of the 3 rotations. and of course, she’d have Madi on the bic for two rotations as well. this is all for not though. just me having fun thinking lol *all for naught. Same concept, but that’s the word you’re looking for.

Obviously with this team national championship is the goal.

I know yall are gonna hate this, but I say try the 6-2🫣 Getting Devin and Reagan in the game would definitely be a plus, but I think a 6-2 would be rough because of (1) not enough passing quality even with Akana DSing for the non-Madi OH and (2) significant difference in Avery's and Ella's balls. Akana absolutely has to be on the floor, her defense and passing in the two matches played has been stellar.

I will say, I’m not sure there’s been a team running a 6-2 with setters like ours. Ashburn and MJ specifically were… definitely setters!

I like the idea of it and if subs get low they could always run Swindle across the front row. I don’t hate the idea of a 5-2 either but it’s not going to happen. I guess it’s all a good problem to have. Texas fans are much less dooms day about their loss than Nebraska fans. That’s for sure. Maybe last year is helping with that. I also think this level is kind of boring for Skinner and we will not see her true potential until last few rounds of the tournament when it really matters. Kind of like USA volleyball. Texas will have a lot of boring matches this year that will be hard to bring it.

min59, Wow what an uplifting statement. What was the intent? Would you stand in front of the team and repeat that statement? See nellynel.

I just don't think Carlson is a viable option at this point. Why? A shorter setter is just too much of a liability at the net right now. TX doesn't have an experienced MB who can go up next to her and consistently take away part of the court. Singletary and Ames aren't yet ready to fill that role. Just look at past vertically-challenged setters at TX. When Jhenna Gabriel was at the net, she was next to Asjia O'Neal and Brionne Butler. When Chloe Collins went up, she had Chiaka Ogbogu and Molly McCage next to her. In my mind it's Ella with Averi ready to come in, if needed.
