I tested out a new outfit for the new season. These amazing Ralph Lauren burnt orange cuffed shorts and a white button down. Methinks I’ll dust off the burnt orange blazer from the last two seasons, just until we have a setter. These things matter. If you look good, we play good. It is known.

Here is my bold prediction: once we commit to a setter and gel with our system, through some natural growing pains, whoever we settle on will emerge as a top setter by season’s end. They are both extremely capable, we just need the reps, consistency, and confidence. Watch this space.

I personally want to see Swindle setting flat-footed again. Her location and timing to all the hitters was night and day during the tournament run last season. Plus we need her blocking in the front row. I keep coming back to this comment for some reason. I do think this could be the answer. her setting this weekend in both matches was almost unhittable. way different than what we saw last season in the tournament. I would love for her to go back to flat footed on any ball that isn’t tight. or she could copy SKT’s mechanics. she jumped off one foot and was incredibly effective

Whether it is current players, the incoming class or transfers. Could be the toughest coaching job this staff has had in a while.

I know yall are gonna hate this, but I say try the 6-2🫣 Getting Devin and Reagan in the game would definitely be a plus, but I think a 6-2 would be rough because of (1) not enough passing quality even with Akana DSing for the non-Madi OH and (2) significant difference in Avery's and Ella's balls.

i do not believe je is going to run a 6-2...first, he has not utilized it yet & we have already started the season...second, the setting is not similar between the 2 setters...& third, we are having some breakdowns in the backrow
-usually running a 6-2 requires lots of repetition/practice
-3 littles in the backrow would be great but who would be the third little?

oddly enough the difference in setters could be benefits in a 6-2, granted I don’t think we would ever use it.
pair Swindle with Devin, who has a wider hitting range, and have Jenna be the OH next to Swindle (would end up being Akana DSing two of those rotations) so they have two front row rotations together for Swindle to lay up those juicy high balls to Madi in transition front row. Mari would hypothetically be the middle next to Swindle (where Halter would be back row) so she’d be setting Ames 2/3 rotations. I think you could run some combo plays here too and have Devin come in on a middle route with Ames running a slide.
pair Carlson with Rutherford since she’s used to having a higher tempo set, and have Madi be the outside next to her to try and create some more seams in the block with her tempo for Jenna front row. Ames would hypothetically be the middle next to Carlson (again, where Halter would be back row), leaving her setting Singletary in the front row for 2 of the 3 rotations. and of course, she’d have Madi on the bic for two rotations as well.
this is all for not though. just me having fun thinking lol
