Did anyone catch in the latest Point Texas how Jerritt said that Whitney has Madi-level athleticism and kind of implied she would be the franchise player “for years to come?” Sounds like she’s getting redshirted this year, since if she played she would be a senior next year iirc

I don't think we will see Whitney this year unless something crazy happens.

She can give the room some much needed experience to help lead the 2025 pins hitters, who I expect will push for playing time very early.

As we were arriving early to the Greg, we saw the Miami team and their support staff dragging their luggage and supplies through Rec Sports and heading to one of the large flexible event gyms. I think they literally got off the plane, onto a bus and headed to practice before checking in (this was around 6:30).
They didn't come watch the game with Indiana and they play them tonight (Friday) at 7:00.
My wife was wondering if it was a ticketed game and I didn't think so? And then as we were walking to the parking garage someone said, "Yeah, you just walk right in and sit anywhere tomorrow"
Wife and I don't usually go and watch non-Texas volleyball. But, maybe grab a bite to eat near campus and go watch a set or two.
Send us your scouting report!

I have mixed feelings about this, but then I think we won it all with 1) less reliable setting and 2) Madi and Jenna barely taking a night off last year. It is possible to do it again without utilizing Whitney and saving her for the next two years. It just makes me a bit uneasy to keep our best option off the bench unavailable in the immediate term.

I sent an email to Del Conte (but first I thanked him for putting with those whiners around the program) and then proceeded to whine about the lameness of the design. I said, "It looked like a coach spent 5 minutes on PowerPoint to come up with that design" Then, I decided to spend 5 minutes on PowerPoint to come up with a design
And included that in the email.
Yay!
I mean, they're clearly capable of better work. Here's a screenshot from the We're Texas episode 3, why not put this puppy up in the Greg instead (click to enlarge):

I’m hoping this means there’s currently not a big difference between Whitney and Devin, meaning Devin is good enough to be first off the bench for Jenna or Rutherford or dub sub. I think Devin’s looked fantastic so far this season when set so I do hope we see her sooner off the bench if Jenna is struggling instead of waiting to use her in the dub sub. if we need to dub sub after that, we still have Byrd

What you’ve said makes me feel better.

Halter was the mvp of the game. Not sure if VM will get posted but my guess is she passed somewhere between 2.25 and 2.4. Against that serving that was phenomenal. More importantly Texas FBSO off over 60% of her passes.
On top of that she was crazy from the service line, 28% of her serves were an ace.
I had Texas winning the transition game with 17-9 kills.

Hey uofaGRAD maybe you can answer this. What constitutes a dig that will make the official stats?
1. Receiving a serve - not a dig 2. Being the second touch of the ball - not a dig 3. Being the first to touch the ball coming from the other side.....and shanking it - not a dig 4. Being the first to touch the ball coming from the other side.....and passing it to another teammate for the second touch - a dig right? 5. Being the first to touch the ball coming from the other side.....and then passing the ball and other teammates misjudge the ball and don't get to it - this happened more than once against Indiana!
Because last night I was watching the stats on my phone and at one point, Halter was credited with 4 digs and I was thinking, "Many she's touched the ball more times than that! What's an official dig then?"

first contact on a ball that was “attacked” by the other team (so free balls don’t count) that are then played/contained by your team. so the “dig” she had when no one got to it didn’t count as a dig. if someone runs down a “dig” but it doesn’t end up getting contained on that second contact, it’s not a dig.

A second question and it involves Halter.
1. Texas gets a side out 2. Rotation occurs 3. Ames is up to serve 4. Ames hits long, side out 5. Emma comes in to take Ames' spot
Why couldn't Emma have come in at (3) and served for Ames? Because she's the sub for Singletary? But she's also the sub for Ames at (5). Sorry, basic question, but I don't know.

liberos can’t serve for both middles. so if she started a set serving for Ames instead of Mari, Mari (or a serve sub would have to serve)
