This is coming from a Neb fan (sorry) But I just don’t agree with TX picking up Carlson. I’m just having troubles seeing the vision then/now. You win a (convincing) natty with a 5-1/freshman setter, there was no reason to go pickup one of the best setters in the portal? I guess to just add a good option, but now that is where a huge issue is lying for TX. The back and forth between the setters and fan opinions on who should be playing, etc. IMO they should’ve left Carlson alone and just rocked w Ella and focused solely on her this summer/this season and getting her better. Not having to deal with this seesaw setting, which seems like it’s going to be a thing all season at this point.. I know it’s not just setting that’s the issue, but it’s the easiest to debate/point out. Also at what point do you just say f*** it and run a 6-2? They have the attackers, find out which oppo pairs best w each S and then there’s no bickering about who should be setting? I know that’s not what TX fans want to see, but at this point with these L’s, I mean getting swept by Stanford? I just wonder… Anyways, those were just my thoughts feel free to disagree! Which setter should Texas have picked up in the portal? We needed a second setter on the roster. Are you saying our coaching staff should have resorted to picking up a transfer with no starting experience? You do realize Swindle was injured the majority of 2023, right? You believe our staff should have gambled that she'd not get injured this season? Others can disagree, but Swindle needed competition in the practice gym this season in order to grow and improve. Texas has more issues than just setting . The use of the bench has been a head scratcher.

Can JE’s son ask him “What’s wrong with Texas?” again already to cue our comeback season.

Y’all, this loss is on me. My wife just informed me that I am wearing the same shirt I wore to the preseason Stanford game last year when we got swept. I will now burn the shirt.

same like if i was getting frustrated through the screen i can't imagine the strength it was taking her to stay resilient through that 😭 also, i was getting so peeved when FINALLY whitney was subbed in and the sets she got were absolutely atrocious like... we HAVE to set our offensive weapons well It's hard to set well when the passing is bad. isn’t the point of an elite setter to set well even if the passing is bad? like any ncaa setter can set well when the passing is good….

if we're being real here..... i understood the Carlson starts as JE playing a little mind game with Swindle. like if you want to be the starter, you better set like a starter on a top team. HOWEVER, i also think that JE (and everyone else) prefer Swindle leading this team bc this simply is her team to lead. Swindle is a player who plays well under pressure and brings the necessary energy whether winning or losing, but i was hoping that the Carlson scares would make her setting location better 😭
i could be totally just making up scenarios here, but this is what the rationale seems to be for the setting situation
now for Whitney, girl i have no f'ing idea 😭😭

The passing numbers should never be posted! I declare that for our mental health.
I promise only to post them as many times as that Asjia service run has been posted on this site lol yeah but we don't post it on the Nebraska thread, ya know...

What's worse than Texas Volleyball starting the season 5-3?
Starting 3-3.
Sorry, dark humor is all I got today

I want to see more of that set 3 lineup. Devin as a passing opp! WL hitting over the block! I didn't expect this year to be as much of a work-in-progress season, aside from the middles, but I feel like there's so much potential for this team and I think working toward that potential can be a good motivator for a long season. We lost 5th senior starters in Asja, Bella, Molly, and Carissa; you didn't expect a fall off? That's half the lineup. We were very fortunate to bring in Rutherford, Whitney, and Carlson. But, not bringing in an experienced transfer middle blocker is the biggest head scratcher, followed by not bringing in an experienced transfer DS. Young (raw) talent is great to have; but, it's very inexperienced and can't hold a candle to 5th year seniors. I never said I didn't expect a fall-off. Of course a team in early September isn't going to look as good as the previous team in December. But in 2023 we were replacing the setter, libero, and go-to outside—not just key positions, but important leaders on the court. Because of that, I expected last season to have a lot of growing pains. That's what I meant by work-in-progress. Based on who was returning this year—starting setter, libero, both OHs, and another primary passer in Akana—and the extra practice the team got on the European trip, I thought things would look cleaner to start the season. Not Championshion level by any means, but I don't think it's unreasonable that I expected less of a mess at the beginning.
I may be in the minority, but I'm okay with not getting a 5th year middle. If we got one, we'd have the same problem next year, but we'd also have inexperienced starting pins. Ames already does so many of the little things right—things that made a player like Bella Bergmark such an asset to the team. And Singletary is going to be such a force. Both of them need reps, and unfortunately they had to face some experienced setters in Shaffmaster and Miner to start the season.
But yeah, I'm with you on the DS. My guess is it was a harder sell once Halter balled out in the Final Four. Barnes transferred when there wasn't a proven libero, so she got to compete for the role. I feel like anyone who transferred in this year would be coming in expecting to be a DS.
